5) Troubleshooting

SOUND HARDWARE ACCELERATIONIf you have sound hardware acceleration enabled in Windows, you may experience distorted sounds or static during gameplay. To eliminate the distorted sounds or static, lower hardware acceleration for your sound card to BASIC or turn it off entirely.

Instructions on changing the sound hardware acceleration:Go to the Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel.  Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices (Win XP), Sound and Multimedia (Win ME/2000) or Multimedia (Win 98) and select the Audio tab.  Under Sound Playback, click Advanced, then select the Performance tab.   Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to "None" to turn off sound hardware acceleration.

SLOW PERFORMANCE IN WINDOWS 98 and MEUnder the Windows 98 or ME operating systems, playing Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance with a gamepad may cause poor performance.
