Sammy Studios, Inc., today announced Drift Racer: Kaido Battle, a new videogame simulator based on the exciting sport of drift racing coming exclusively to Sony PlayStation2 in February 2004. Read more for details and screens...

Billed as the next rage in import racing by car magazines and race enthusiasts, the sport based on precision power-sliding began as an underground race form on treacherous mountain roads in Japan known as the Kaido. Today drift racing is enjoying a sudden surge in interest among race fans, with the announcement for the game coming just days after its biggest US event to-date, the D1 Grand Prix, which drew thousands of fans to Irwindale, CA. Developed by Genki as the sport’s first authentic videogame simulator, Drift Racer: Kaido Battle fully immerses players in the world of drift racing. The game faithfully recreates the Kaido so players can race the very roads where the sport was born, and further enhances the realism with more than 150 licensed cars to unlock in the course of the game. Drift Racer: Kaido Battle also has sponsored race parts for detailed car tuning and modifications to handling physics, along with five play modes that cover underground and sanctioned drift racing and the sport’s variety of speed and style-driven competition.

“Drift racing brings together automotive technology and human skill to create a thrilling new form of racing,” said Tim Pivnicny, Senior VP Sales & Marketing, Sammy Studios. “Drift Racer: Kaido Battle captures all the important elements needed to recreate that thrill in a videogame. Licensed cars and parts, authentic tracks and various modes, including a career mode that lets players evolve from the underground into the pro ranks, make this the ultimate experience for all racing game fans.”

Drift Racer: Kaido Battle has more than 150 licensed cars from over a dozen manufacturers like Nissan™, Subaru™, Mitsubishi™, Mazda™ and Volkswagen™, with variable handling physics and detailed car tuning using sponsored race parts. The game offers five modes of play for stylistic precision-driving and racing for 1 or 2 players, including a career mode that pits players against nearly 200 underground racers in official daytime events and underground nighttime races. Additional features in Drift Racer: Kaido Battle include environment effects for all four seasons, weather effects such as rain, snow and fog, replay movie galleries and licensed in-game music from well-known progressive-house DJs.
