'The Unseelie' - Screens

by Judy on Sept. 9, 2004 @ 4:34 p.m. PDT

An unsuspecting driver smashes into a tree while trying to avoid what appears to be a child in his path. Upon awakening he is led to an ancient forest that is later revealed to be "Tir-Na-BrĂ ch-Marbh" (Land of the Eternal Death). Its supernatural limbs and roots have engulfed a 17th century Irish village, severing its contact with the rest of the world and slowing time to a crawl. The outsider learns that in order to return home, he will have to battle "The Unseelie" (pronounced "Un SHEE Lee"), the accursed and unblessed of the fairy race of Celtic myth. With the defeat of each demon lord he will obtain one of seven Celtic elements that will eventually allow him to escape the clutches of Finvarra, the King of the Dead.

Trapped in a world between the living and the dead, the player battles "The Unseelie", a race of unholy creatures of ancient Celtic myth to piece together the mystery of a missing 17th century Irish village, which has been overwhelmed by an ancient, dark forest. The player must travel throughout the sinister realm of "Tir-Na-Brach-Marbh" (Land of the Eternal Death) and collect the seven elements of Celtic folklore to open a portal and escape the clutches of Finvarra, King of the Dead, and return to the real world.

Features :

  • Viewed from a first person perspective, players will become immersed in the environment and world around them as they combat the forces of darkness.
  • 3D environments and characters are brought to life with the cutting-edge AMP II graphics engine. With features like real-time lighting, stencil shadowing, high-resolution textures with texture compression, skeletal animation, bump mapping, 32-bit colour, specular lighting and per-polygon hit detection.
  • Dating back literally thousands of years, Irish and Celtic folklore has a wealth of characters and stories to draw from. The Unseelie merges classic myth with modern first person shooters to create a unique style never before seen in modern gaming.
  • Fear is taken to a new level as the player goes up against creatures from the darkest corners of the unknown. Players experience an unparalleled feeling of tension as they explore the Land of Eternal Dead, not knowing what’s ahead of them…or behind them.
  • Using the seven powers of the septagram, players will battle the seven lords of the otherworld elements, through seven uniquely styled levels to return the seven branches of a mystical tree before battling the King of the Dead himself, Finvarra.
  • Using a mystical staff the player gains an array of powers and attacks, each one based around one of the seven elements of Celtic folklore, Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Wood, Metal and Spirit
  • Throughout each level are several puzzles, which often follow the theme of that level’s power. For example, the player may need to negotiate a series of cogs and pulleys throughout the aqueduct or they may need to navigate through a particular forest area, where the only light is that from brief flashes of lightning during a storm.
