'StarShift' - Screens & Trailer

by Judy on Dec. 10, 2004 @ 1:44 a.m. PST

StarShift is a turn-based online strategy game which takes place in a fictional universe. Each game can host up to 40 players simultaneously, and there are no limits to the amount of players on any given server. StarShift is a twisted game where you can back-stab your allies, corrupt your enemies and mess with everybody else!

StarShift is taking the strategy game genre beyond what people are used to by focusing more than any other game on diplomacy and espionage. As a matter of fact, almost everything is allowed in the game, from corrupting your enemies to being treacherous with your allies, in order to assimilate their technology and territory! StarShift is the kind of game that seems simple at first glance, but offers a whole universe of possibilities to explore. Strategy fans will be pleased with its captivating atmosphere and its ease of use, which will provide them an incredibly dynamic experience.

Players will have at their disposal 30 different Technologies, 25 Special Ops, 5 Diplomatic Treaties, a complete Voting System (allowing players to alter the game rules!) and many types of units, buildings and sectors. They will also be able to trade money, Spy Points, Technologies, military units and sectors with other players.

When joining a game, you pick one out of nine (9) available races. Each race will have one (or more) advantage(s) over the others. Some will have a special unit, some will gain more money, others will be better at spying, building, etc.

During a game, you will have to research technologies to improve your units or discover new units that would not be available otherwise. You will also be able to use diplomacy to talk with your neighbours to create alliances or declare war and finally, there will be over 20 available Special Ops (for spying, sabotage, counterspy, etc.).

The ultimate goal in StarShift is to become the Supreme Council Leader, which you can only achieve by winning a couple dozen games.

There are many ways to win a game... but players can make lots of points without even winning, if they're a bit skilled in diplomacy. So even if you don't win the game, you can climb the rankings. In other words, a game could be compared to a "round" in a boxing match: you win a game (or place among the first players), you gain points, possibly get promoted to a higher rank, but this doesn't mean you will win or lose the whole match for sure.
