As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

'Act of War: Direct Action' Gets Hollywood Production - Screens

by Judy on Jan. 7, 2005 @ 3:56 p.m. PST

Ripped from today's headlines, Act of War is a frightening and believable tale of suspense, international intrigue and geopolitical military conflict. Through a techno-thriller story constructed by best-selling author Dale Brown, this real-time strategy experience puts you squarely in control of counterterrorist forces to defend cities of the world. It's the first look at tomorrow's war. No place is safe!

Act of War is Nimrod's latest orchestral score harnessing the compositional skills of Marc Canham and Jonathan Williams working alongside producer Richard Aitken to create an absorbing and blood-pumping score to compliment Eugen System's stunning visual feast.

Nimrod is one of the most respected audio production companies in the games and music industry. Over the last five years Nimrod has developed a leading composition team, three comprehensive recording facilities, the Nimrod Studio Orchestra (The NSO), an innovative licensing, marketing, commercial soundtrack department and an ability to make things happen!

The music was recorded at CTS Lansdowne Studio in London and features the NSO, who's players have performed on movie scores such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Troy, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Cold Mountain, The Magic Roundabout and Sky Captain - The World of Tomorrow.

Nimrod feverishly explores the groundbreaking opportunities game audio arena by implementing their creativity, live and performance driven sound to your ears. With over 30 million games sold worldwide featuring Nimrod's music and the exciting set of releases for 2004/05 Nimrod expects to see this figure double... so your ears are in for a treat!

Beyond FX, a Hollywood post-production company, is responsible for all the visual effects in Act of War's cut scenes. They have an amazingly talented team with an incredible track record for producing high quality visuals for a wide range of industries including Feature Films, Broadcast Commercials, Music Videos and Game Cinematics. Beyond FX hand-pick their teams from a high class pool of talent to suit the needs of each project, allowing them to constantly evolve their style and build their credibility.

Most of the scenes in Act of war have benefited from Beyond FX's professional expertise, especially in instances where location filming and large set pieces (a full on gun battle outside Buckingham Palace for exmple) were impossible to achieve on site.

In a story driven by a hi-tech modern theme, that had to show how the war of tomorrow would be fought, Beyond FX were able to create a huge range of special effects which allowed Dale Brown's techno thriller to be told exactly as he envisaged.

Act of War: Direct Action will be available on PC across Europe in March 2005.
