'Morphid Brood' Announced - Screens

by Rainier on Feb. 23, 2006 @ 3:53 p.m. PST

Morphid Brood challenges the player to aid the Brood on the journey they seem compelled to undertake, to a place yet unknown, but the going won’t be easy. Standing in their way are countless environmental challenges and puzzles, and worse still, a group of equally strange jungle-dwelling creatures with a ravenous appetite.

Morphid Brood introduces the player to a whole new universe of strange but strangely familiar creatures and environments. It is set in a tropical world amongst the decaying ruins of an apparently extinct civilisation. Each level takes place in a different part of the jungle and sees the player take control of a group of strange newly-born creatures: the Brood. The game challenges the player to aid the Brood on the journey they seem compelled to undertake, to a place yet unknown, but the going won’t be easy. Standing in their way are countless environmental challenges and puzzles, and worse still, a group of equally strange jungle-dwelling creatures with a ravenous appetite.

The Brood have several advantages at their disposal. Each of the individuals has a specific ability. Some are great at overcoming and manipulating their environment; some are better at defending against those who would see them as quarry, and others consider attack the best form of defence. To complete their journey though, the Brood cannot rely on these abilities alone. Certain problems call for unique combinations of abilities that individuals alone cannot provide. Two Brood members together can commit the ultimate sacrifice joining together to give up their lives and bodies to metamorphose into a single synergistic beast.

Scattered throughout the jungle, if they look hard enough, the Brood can find eggs containing their as yet unhatched siblings. In this embryonic form, their abilities have yet to be set, a decision the player can take. In amongst the undergrowth, the Brood may also begin to find clues to the cause of their congenital drive. And what of this compelled journey? Well maybe, just maybe, when they reach the end, all will become clear.

Morphid Brood mixes real-time strategy and puzzle elements to create an innovative new play pattern, allowing the player to balance between combat, strategy and puzzle-solving and truly choose how they want to play the game.
