A few months ago we had some early screens from Digital Reality's upcominf project under the name of "some 3D Vietnam based war game". Well today there is confirmation that the game is steaming along very well and will be named "Platoon : The 1st Airborne Cavalry Division In Vietnam". We got some game features and screens ... yummie!

Game description

You are Martin Lionsdale, newly wed and new recruit of the US Army. As the story events unfold, you will come to know his emotions, his relationship with his wife, and the War itself.

You will also come to know several other key members of the platoon. As you successfully carry out your mission, you will climb the ranks to become a Lieutenant and be responsible for a full platoon of infantry (up to 30 men) composed of specialist soldiers :(rifleman, sniper, scout, machine gunner, grenadier, engineer, commando...).

Platoon : The 1st Airborne Cavalry Division in Vietnam covers the period from the early days of the conflict (late 1965) to the height of the battle in 1968, and recreates some of the most tragiv moment of the vietnam war : Operation 'Shiny boy', the Pleiku Campaign, Operation 'Pershing'...

Combat and weapons are ultra realistic, real life tactics making use of real US Army reports and documents.

A Revolutionary game engine

Platoon : The 1st Airborne Cavalry Division in Vietnam's game engine features tremendous visual effects : vertex shaders for character movement and grass effects, particle systems for explosion effects (smoke, fire), dynamic shadows for moving objects, environmental mapping for reflective surfaces (windows, water and shiny metal) and a scalable level of detail system (L.O.D).
