'Project Gotham Racing 4' (X360) Photo/Arcade Mode Details - 15 New Screens

by Rainier on Sept. 7, 2007 @ 9:51 a.m. PDT

Project Gotham Racing 4 promises to continue the Project Gotham Racing pedigree of innovation by introducing exciting new experiences to racing fans worldwide.

Right from the starting line, Bizarre’s vision for “PGR 4” was to create an emotionally-charged racing experience, where players become attached to their careers, profiles and vehicles. There are several new features that embody this emotional experience, the most significant being the new career mode. Drivers will be rewarded with a growing fanbase that’ll cheer them on, react to their every move and support them through victory. Just imagine hearing the roar of the crowd as you cross the finish line with your own style and flair.

One of the most appealing new gameplay elements is the dynamic weather system. Now racing through a track can mean facing an unexpected rain storm or snow flurries in the middle of a race. This results in changing physics when powering around a corner on the wet or icy surface in Shanghai and St. Petersburg or any of the game’s 10 other locations. So, if you think driving on a dry track is boring…

Weather changes won’t be the only element that brings added excitement and challenge to the game. Flair and driving style will now be just as important as technical skill, as players passing their opponent at full speed will pump their fists and exhibit more emotion as they earn recognition with the revised Kudos system. The Kudos will be worthwhile too, because the new A.I. personalities will be able to perform bold new driving maneuvers as they race side by side with other drivers.

PGR4 shows off an all-new career mode, dynamic weather system and PGR On Demand. The game will also feature some exotic locations, including St. Petersburg, Shanghai, and Macau, plus a revised kudos system.

Photo Mode is once again returning to the “PGR” franchise, with all the features you’ve come to expect – and a few new ones as well. Not only are new effects available, including noise, wobble, tunnel, and vehicle blur, but there are also special new filters including the 3-D glasses “cheat.” Enabling new feature this will render your photo mode screenshot in 3-D, so using a pair of red and blue glasses will put your photos into a whole new perspective!

Photo Mode is also more tightly integrated into gameplay than ever before. PGR On Demand – our new online server technology – allows you to download the photos you want, when you want them. For example, want to see Ferraris racing in Macau? No problem. Want to see a Kawasaki in a snowstorm? Just search for it. PGR On Demand also allows you to vote on public photos taken by other players, meaning that we will finally be able to see who’s photo grabbing skills are truly the best in the world.

The brand new Arcade Mode takes place over several different chapters, each of which has several events contained inside it. Each chapter is themed to a particular driving discipline. For example, "Catch Me If You Can" is all about competitive racing against over drivers, whilst "Drifto 101" consists mainly of drifting and Kudos type events.

The aim of Arcade Mode is to race each event, and earn medals in each. Steel medals are awarded for novices, right up to Platinums for expert players. Also, the Arcade Mode in PGR4 is split into two, one side for cars and the other for bikes. There are 108 medals available in total.

Arcade Mode is really the place to start if you're a PGR veteran looking for some instant gratification. You can tackle events in any order you like (provided you've unlocked them of course), and keep retrying them to beat your best score. All events have Xbox Live leaderboards, so you can check if you're really the best of the best. We've updated the Arcade Mode page on the PGR4 section of bizarrecreations.com with the above details, as well as a full event listing.
