Presenting tactical, immersive warfare on a scale never seen before in a shooter, the new video demonstrates how Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising takes gamers to the vast 220 km² island of Skira, a rigorously researched and meticulously recreated battlefield, located off the eastern coast of Russia and north of Japan. The game authentically recreates conflict on a 360-degree theatre of war, allowing players to approach objectives on Skira from any direction. On this immense and realistic battlefield, where one bullet can kill, players face the fear and mortality felt by soldiers immersed in deadly modern warfare as they are challenged to survive the rapidly evolving situations of battle.

As the epic campaign unfold, players will fight as US Marines Infantry and Special Operations Forces fireteam leaders against the military might of a division from the People’s Liberation Army of China, in an attempt to prevent a flashpoint engagement over oil erupting into a full blown international war. From intense fire fights through to paced tactical decision making, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising recreates the brutal reality of the modern combat experience with serious attention to the detail of the weapons, equipment and tactics of the armed forces.

The island of Skira is a stunningly detailed and beautifully recreated oil-rich island. Fictionally located off the eastern coast of Russia just north of Japan, its rich geological terrain will provide a challenging tactical environment that includes valleys, mountains, coastlines, beaches, villages, industrial complexes and a huge extinct volcano.

Its natural resources and location powers a strong story that opens as an airborne division of the People’s Liberation Army of China (PLA) lands to claim the island as the sovereign possession of the People’s Republic. The patrolling amphibious assault ship, USS Iwo Jima, responds by sending a battalion of US Marines and the island becomes a flashpoint where the combined combat assets of two military super powers face off in an epic engagement.

“Skira makes for an immense and, with the latest visual pass, a magnificent battlefield; we’re exceptionally proud of the build so far,” said Sion Lenton, Executive Producer, Codemasters. “Creating this vast island, populated by unscripted AI military forces, is no trivial matter and so, to get this absolutely right, we’re now investing additional development time. We’ll be working right through the summer to deliver all formats this autumn and create the best possible experience that people will want to enjoy again and again.”

In addition to the extensive single player campaign, an in-depth co-op multiplayer component will be featured, enabling squads of four players to work tactically through the intense campaign together. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set to deliver the most accessible, engaging and visceral sandbox shooter of the year

Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising utilizes an evolved variant of Neon technology.
