College Student Facing 10 Years for Console Modding

Matthew Crippen, a 27-year-old California State University student, has been arrested on federal charges that he illegally modified Xbox, PlayStation and Wii consoles to enable the machines to play pirated video games. Crippen, who was released Monday night after posting $5,000 bail, is in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and is scheduled for arraignment on Aug. 10, where he faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
