'Fortnite' Brings Back Fortnitemares With New Updates Every Day in October

by Rainier on Oct. 5, 2021 @ 9:15 a.m. PDT

Fortnite is an expansive original world that invites players to be creative, resourceful and collaborative, combining building skills and destructible environments with intense PvP combat.

In Fortnite, players and their friends lead a group of Heroes to reclaim and rebuild a homeland that has been left empty by a mysterious darkness only known as “the Storm.”

Players will band together online to explore the world for resources, build extravagant forts, find or build insane weapons and traps as they protect their towns from the strange monsters that emerge during the Storm.

Fortnite Battle Royale is the FREE 100-player PvP mode in Fortnite. One giant map. A battle bus.

The last one standing wins.

Fortnitemares is back and bigger than ever! With new updates every day in October, this month is jam-packed for spooky season in Fortnite! Fortnitemares festivities brings Halloween-themed experiences in Fortnite Creative, Shortnitemares, new and returning Halloween Outfits, and many more to be revealed in future updates.

Here’s what’s revealed in the first week of Fortnitemares:

  • Discover new and returning Halloween Outfits through flipped cards on our official Fortnite channels. These cards will reveal the legendary monsters making their way (or finding their way back) to the Island!
  • Iconic creatures such as the Universal Studios-inspired Frankenstein’s Monster and The Mummy will also be joining the game as a part of the Universal Monsters Set, available in the Fortnite Item Shop.
  • For some IRL action, the Battle Bus and cosplay Fortnite characters will be at Universal CityWalk, with never-before-seen original Fortnitemares characters appearing on the very day they will go live in the Fortnite Item Shop.
  • Shortnitemares is returning as Fortnite’s third Short Nite film festival! This time around the animated shorts will be based on the ghoulish and sinister, and take place in a creator-made movie theater (created by Quantam Builds). More details to come as we get closer to the show!

Additionally, Fortnitemares brings Chapter 2 Season 8 gameplay twists and turns. The Cubes are going to be eerier than ever as they’ll level up their domination over the Island this month! Players will get the chance to strengthen their resolve with a new weapon from The Sideways and returning Halloween tricks.

What To Expect!?

The first thing in the cards? Starting now, jump into Halloween-themed maps, games, and experiences — made by the community during the Fortnitemares Callout! These will be featured in the “Fortnitemares” section of the playlist menu.

Here’s what else is in your fortune this month.

Iconic Fiends, Creatures, and Costumes

Fortnitemares 2021 has many new and returning Halloween Outfits in store. Some of what to expect? Throughout the month, cards will reveal legendary monsters making their way to the Fortnite Item Shop, as well as classic Fortnite characters getting new Halloween twists. With each Item Shop debut, a card will flip over in this evolving page. Take a look at the card to see who’s entering the Item Shop, and see the backs of other cards for hints at who’s next.

Want some reveals now? Iconic creatures include the Universal Pictures-inspired Frankenstein’s Monster and The Mummy, part of the Universal Monsters Set! Keep up with the card flip page and our social channels to see when they storm into the Item Shop. (The Mummy will also be lurching on the Island as a Character later in the month, trying to find his way home to the Underworld.)

To help kick things off, the community-inspired Boxy and Boxer are in the Item Shop now, October 5, with new glowing versions of their alternate Spectral Styles!

Also, throughout October, you can visit the Battle Bus and Fortnite cosplay characters at Universal CityWalk, adjacent to Universal Studios Hollywood. Different characters will appear throughout the month, with special appearances by new Fortnitemares characters the day they go live in the Item Shop! Stop by and take a picture.

A New Side of The Cubes’ Plan...

The Cubes are mobilizing for the next step of their plan. Later in the month, they'll escalate their domination of the Island. But take heart! Strengthen your resolve with a new weapon from The Sideways and returning Halloween tricks. A special LTM will be returning as well...

During this Cubic chaos, there’ll also be Quests to accomplish for eerie rewards.

Speaking of Halloween tricks, the new Dual Fiend Hunters are on the Island now!

Get Some Scares at Shortnitemares

Fortnitemares 2021 will be wrapping up with the third Short Nite film festival! Like previous Short Nites, “Shortnitemares” will feature animated shorts — but this time, the shorts will be based on the ghoulish and sinister. Also, this Short Nite will take place in a creator-made movie theater (created by Quantum Builds), where each short’ll have its own theater room. Choose the order you watch them in, or watch them all in a loop in the festival room.

We’ll share more details on Shortnitemares closer to the show. Consider this your invite card!

Fortnite is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Android and iOS.
