'Dead by Daylight' Will Be Adding Japanese Horror Phenomenon Ringu In March 2022 - Trailer

by Rainier on Dec. 15, 2021 @ 1:02 a.m. PST

Dead By Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game in which one crazed killer hunts four friends through a terrifying nightmare.

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught, tortured and killed.

Survivors play in third-person and have the advantage of better situational awareness. The Killer plays in first-person and is more focused on their prey.

The Survivors' goal in each encounter is to escape the Killing Ground without getting caught by the Killer - something that sounds easier than it is, especially when the environment changes every time you play.

The game features procedurally generated levels, so players never experience a repetitive map. Be the killer and massacre all your victims before they escape, by using your speed and power in 1st person, or team up with your friends to try and outwit the killer with your superior awareness and agility in a 3rd person's view as he hunts you through a nightmare world.

Players take on the role of both killer and survivors in a deadly game of cat and mouse. It’s a Mature Gamer take on the thrills of Hide & Seek!

Behaviour Interactive teams up with famed Japanese entertainment editor and publisher Kadokawa to integrate its cult franchise Ringu in the world of the horror game.

Ringu introduced images that have long haunted fans, fuelling the nightmares of audiences across the globe. This new Chapter inspired by Kōji Suzuki’s novel and the original acclaimed film adaptation willopen the door for endless thrills and countless gameplay possibilities as it merges the eerie and melancholic world of the psychological horror masterwork with the twisted fantasy of Dead by Daylight.

“The importance of the Ringu franchise in Japan, and its influence on culture around the world are undeniable. To be given the opportunity to dive into that legendary story as we bring this creation into Dead by Daylight is an immense honor”, says Mathieu Côté, Game Director, Dead by Daylight. “This new Chapter will give our players something intensely dark and troubling, a real heart-pounding experience that adds to the already high intensity of our game.”

Kōji Suzuki’s Ring, originally published in 1991, began the haunting story of a spreading curse and its doomed victims. Fans remember the chilling premise of the psychological horror sensation: a video that, upon viewing, promises death in seven days. In 1998, the novel was adapted into a Japanese feature film of the same name, widely known as Ringu to North American and European audiences. The story quickly became a sensation in other Asian territories and everywhere around the world, instantly adding a new presence into the pantheon of cinematic horror icons.

“We are very excited about the collaboration with Behaviour Interactive and the Dead by Daylight team. We’ll be sending one of our most haunting characters into the Fog to pour down horrors that will rival all the great predecessors”, shared Reiko Imayasu, Producer, Kadokawa Corporation. “Fans should beware of their heart; this deadly newcomer will definitely strike them, and they will tremble with fear whilst they wait.”

The new Chapter based on Ringu is coming in March 2022 to Dead by Daylight.

More details will follow.
