'Final Fantasy XIV' Reaches 27 Million Registered Player Milestone, Reveals More v6.25 Patch Details, Fan Festival Returns In 2023

by Rainier on Oct. 10, 2022 @ 11:43 a.m. PDT

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker features the climax of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story, in which Warriors of Light will encounter an even greater calamity than ever before as they travel to the far reaches of Hydaelyn and even to the moon.

Eorzea, an awe-inspiring land of endless possibilities. Whether you choose to battle fierce creatures in the wilderness, fashion the ultimate blade in the forge, or swap tall tales in the local tavern, the history of Final Fantasy XIV will be shaped by your actions. Choose from an exotic variety of races, looks and classes to fashion your hero. Change classes simply by equipping a different weapon or tool and tackle an ever-changing assortment of level quests alone or with friends.

In addition to bringing the long-running story arc that began with A Realm Reborn to its conclusion, Endwalker will mark a new beginning for the MMO, setting the stage for new adventures that longtime fans and new players can enjoy together. The new expansion will bring an abundance of new features, including multiple new jobs, an increased level cap, vast new areas, updates to the battle system, a variety of new challenges to overcome, as well as crafter and gatherer content.

The age of adventure has begun.

Square Enix announced plans to host the latest global series of Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festivals 2023-2024 for the MMORPG beginning in the summer of 2023, and confirmed Las Vegas, Nevada and London, United Kingdom would serve as the first two host cities, with a final Fan Festival taking place in Japan in early 2024.

During the 73rd Letter from the Producer LIVE stream – part of the 8th 14-hour broadcast – Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida revealed that Final Fantasy XIV Online now has more than 27 million registered players globally.

For more details, please watch the archived stream here.

Set to take place in North America, Europe and Japan respectively, details on the events are as follows:

  • North America - Las Vegas, Nevada – Las Vegas Convention Center
    • July 28 – July 29, 2023
  • Europe – London, United Kingdom – The ExCel Centre
    • October 21 – October 22, 2023
  • Japan – Venue TBD
    • Early 2024

More information on the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festivals, including details on ticket sales, will be announced at a later date.

A variety of other announcements were also featured during the Letter from the Producer LIVE stream, including an overview of additional in-game content arriving in Final Fantasy XIV Online on October 18, courtesy of Patch 6.25.

Further details are outlined below:

  • New Side Story Quests – Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures continue in Patch 6.25.
  • New Weapon Enhancement Quests – Players can obtain and enhance Manderville Weapons throughout the Patch 6.x series, which will begin in the Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures questline.
  • New Tribal Quests: Omicron – New daily quests for Disciples of the Land.
  • New “Variant Dungeons” Battle Content – Players can enjoy new variable-difficulty dungeons—beginning with the Sil'dihn Subterrane—designed for 1-4 players, with the difficulty of enemies scaling depending on party size. Players will explore dungeons with Nanamo, featuring branching routes, which can change depending on player actions within the dungeon. Folios can also be obtained from each route, which can be pieced together to deduce secrets and complete the entire story.
  • Criterion Dungeons – High difficulty four-player content featuring a visually similar area to the Variant Dungeons, but with a set route. Criterion dungeons will feature two options of difficulties, each with their own unique set of rules and characteristics.
Finally, players can look forward to the upcoming expansion of the North American data center taking place on November 1. The addition will serve to further reduce congestion during peak periods for the ever-expanding playerbase, with the new logical data center, named “Dynamis,” initially consisting of four new Worlds with plans to expand further in the future. More details will be available on the Lodestone in the coming days.

For newer players looking to start their adventures in the realm of Eorzea, the Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Guide Series is a seven-part online video series which provides novice players with tips and tricks to get the most out of their adventure, and can be viewed now on YouTube. The videos follow the journey of new player Kaz and his mentor Mayra, who guides him through his first steps in Eorzea.

The expanded Free Trial now includes all content from A Realm Reborn and the Heavensward expansion (and updates through Patch 3.56), as well as an additional playable race (Au Ra), and three additional playable jobs (Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Machinist). Free Trial players can enjoy hundreds of hours of award-winning gameplay and story experiences equivalent to two full Final Fantasy titles, without limit on playtime.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is available for PC, PS5, PS4 and Mac.
