'eFootball' Surpasses 700 Million Downloads Worldwide, Celebrates With In-Game Freebies

by Rainier on Jan. 11, 2024 @ 8:52 a.m. PST

Free-to-play and completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine, eFootball is an all-new football simulation platform from the makers of PES and Winning Eleven.

A new brand identity for a new generation of consoles and players, eFootball represents a fresh approach for the long-running franchise, previously known as Pro Evolution Soccer and Winning Eleven.

Thanks to the greatly evolved football game engine, the animation system has also been overhauled. New technology called "Motion Matching" converts the vast range of movements that players make on the pitch into a series of animations, selecting the most accurate one in real-time. The system provides more than four times as many animations as before, achieving highly realistic movement. “Motion Matching” will be utilised across all eFootball platforms, including last-gen consoles, PCs and mobile.

Ensuring that eFootball is an experience that everyone can enjoy, Konami’s new football game is free-to-play across console, PC and mobile. Importantly, eFootball will also present a fair and balanced experience for all players. More details about gameplay and online modes will be revealed in late August.

As a digital-only title, Konami will regularly add new content and game modes after launch this Autumn. Local matches featuring FC Barcelona, Juventus, FC Bayern, Manchester United and others will be available, for free, at launch. In the future, certain game modes will be sold as optional DLC, giving players the freedom to build an experience that follows their interests.

Uniting football’s global gaming community for the first time, eFootball will offer the same highly realistic esports experience across console, PC and mobile, including full cross-play support post-launch.

Konami announced that its flagship football title ‘eFootball’ has surpassed 700 million total downloads worldwide.

To celebrate the milestone, Konami will implement an in-game campaign for eFootball with a host of features, running from January 11th – February 1st. During these three weeks, there will be a special log-in gift of one Player of the Week (POTW) per week – three in total. Users can also receive 1 x Worldwide Chance Deal every day as a log-in bonus during the campaign period.

Campaign Achievement

During the period, users can take part in various Tour Events, Challenge Events, and eFootball Leagues to earn a potential 200,000 GP, 210 eFootball Coins, and much more.

eFootball Championship Club Event: FC Bayern München

In December 2023, KONAMI released details of a change to its main esports tournaments, introducing the eFootball Championship Club Event. eFootball Championship Club Events will see users from around the world compete initially in regional, in-game qualifiers before a final to decide which of them will represent each of the competing clubs. The FC Bayern München Club Event is set to kick off from Monday, 15th January.

AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Commemorative Campaign

Thanks to KONAMI’s partnership with the Asian Football Confederation, eFootball will include a special log-in gift of ten difference Chance Deals from 10 Asian teams competing in the Asian Cup Qatar 2023. There will also be three Epic players from Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia given alongside these.

eFootball v.3.2.0 update

December 2023 saw eFootball move to version 3.2.0, introducing a host of new features including the new ‘My League’ game mode, evolutions to Co-op mode, and new Log-in mini games. This has allowed users to enjoy the most diverse set of features within eFootball since its inception.
