'Universal Combat: A World Apart' - Demo #3 Available NOW

Get the UC: A World Apart demo #3 off WP (271mb)

Welcome to the third and final demo for our new game. This third demo consists of all scenarios from the first two demos but features various revisions in the scenarios scripts. This third demo also uses the final game engine kernel.

These demos are primarily for gamers who are familiar with our games as this tutorial will not teach you every facet of the game and its features. If you have played the previous Universal Combat title, then everything should be immediately familiar. Being a sequel, very little - by way of features - has changed. If you have not yet played the previous game in the series, now would be a good time to go pick up a copy. We have however included (look in the DOCS folder) the full tutorial for UC. While the scenarios in it are not indicative of these demo scenarios, reading that tutorial will teach almost everything about the game and provide a lot more info about all of the things you will encounter in the demo and which are not mentioned in this tutorial.

Thanks for your support, without which we probably would not have been around this long nor been able to develop six games (with more to come!) so far in our long running series.

In these demos, several features are disabled. e.g. since the scenarios in this first demo do not feature first person mode, this is disabled and non of the required assets are included.

PART 1
IA0101 COMMANDER MEGARON (HEAVY CARRIER) SPACE
IA0102 COMMANDER STARCARRIER (SUPER CRUISER) SPACE
IA0103 ELITE FORCE PILOT VANDAL (SUPER FIGHTER) SPACE
IA0104 ELITE FORCE PILOT STARLANCE (MEDIUM FIGHTER) MARS

PART II
IA0105 RECON FORCE MARINE EARTH
IA0106 ELITE FORCE MARINE EARTH
IA0107 MOBILE INFANTRY MARINE EARTH
IA0108 PLANETARY SUPPORT PILOT EARTH

IA0101 : In this scenario, as commander of a heavy carrier, you are tasked with assisting in the recapture of a Terran starstation while coordinating several forces, including your own.

IA0102 : This scenario is identical to the first, but you are in command of a faster and more agile heavy cruiser.

IA0103 : This scenario is a variation of the first, but as a fighter pilot in command of other fighters in your wing, you are faced with even more challenges; given the fact that from such a puny fighter, death is only a missile or two away.

IA0104 : This scenario is a variation of the third, but while the battle to recapture the station wages on, you will have to sneak through enemy lines in space (in the midst of a major battle to recapture the Starpath starstation), make your way to the planet Mars and engage a tactical target on the surface. Its not as easy as it sounds.

IA0105 : As a sniper, you have been dropped behind enemy lines in pitch darkness, to kill an important Insurgent officer before he departs the base.

IA0106 : Elite Force Marines are the best of the best. In this scenario, you are tasked with locating downed pilots inside a hostile military base and keeping them alive until they are rescued.

IA0107 : Your team was shot down in the middle of a hostile zone. All you have to do is stay alive until help arrives.

IA0108 : This scenario requires that you lead a flight of gunships to destroy a transport ship located at a hostile base, before it takes off.

INTRODUCTION

While you are waiting for the demo to download or install, please give this tutorial a quick run through and print it if at all possible.
After the demo is installed, run it using the shortcut located on your desktop or use the one located in your Start / Program Files group.
If the demo fails to start, please read the included troubleshooting FAQ. Most common startup problems are related to either video drivers, video AVI codes (for playing the intro splash screen) or failure of the target system to meet the game's requirements. Please read the relevant sections located in the FAQ if you have startup problems.

The requirements for the game and this demo are located on the product info page on our website. However the MINIMUM requirements are as follows:

Minimum:

- Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP
- DirectX 9.0c Runtime with April 2005 Update
- Pentium IV 2.0 GHz or equivalent AMD processor
- 256MB RAM
- 64MB AGP video card with Pixel & Vertex Shader 1.1 (NO nVidia MX cards!)
nVidia chipsets: GeForce 3Ti, 4Ti, 4200 GO series
ATI chipsets: Radeon 8500, 9000, 9200 series
- DirectSound compatible sound card
- 16X CDROM or DVD-ROM

Recommended:

- Windows 2000, XP
- Pentium IV 2.8 GHz or equivalent AMD processor
- 512MB RAM
- 128MB AGP video card with Pixel & Vertex Shader 2.0
nVidia chipsets: GeForce FX, 6800 series
ATI chipsets: Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800, X800 series
- SoundBlaster Audigy or Live! series, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, Hercules Fortissimo or similar compatible sound card.

If you do not know if your video card supports a pixel and vertex shader, please check with your video card manufacturer. Unless your video card supports vertex shader 1.1 and pixel shader 1.1, the demo will NOT run.

No, there is no workaround for this. No, a shader is not something you can download and install. Yes, the full game will also have the same shader requirements.

After the demo has loaded, you can go click on the OPTIONS screen to tweak some of the settings. For more information about the various options and to restore the default settings, please refer to the configuration options PDF file located in the DOCS folder where this demo is installed.

NOTE: Once the game has started and you are in the game world, you can pause the demo at any time by using the PAUSE key on your keyboard. Press any key to resume the game.
