'Outward' (ALL) Free Content Update Adds Hardcore Mode, Boss Fights, End-Game Items And More

by Rainier on Oct. 4, 2019 @ 2:19 a.m. PDT

Outward is an open-world action RPG in which you play an adventurer, traveler, and explorer.

Most importantly, you are vulnerable, equipped with as much power as your adversaries. Survive through wild, brutal lands teeming with enemies, obstacles, and fantasy creatures, using combat and magic to overcome both the harsh environment and the rivals in your way.

While a level of failure is almost guaranteed, failing is merely another spin on the player's personal epic story! A unique magical system, thrilling combat, and survival in a world full of dangers are key elements of this upcoming fantasy RPG, and through each player's unique journey all of this will be learned.

The life of an adventurer isn't about becoming all powerful. It's about outsmarting your enemies and planning ahead to overcome your challenges. Lay traps, use special equipment, perform a magic ritual, bring your friends. Come up with a solution tailored to your problem instead of rushing headfirst into danger.

Outward is playable alone or with friends, either online or in split-screen co-op. Start from humble beginnings and build your way up until you become a hardened wanderer.  Traverse incredible landscapes rich with diversity and life, progressing your skills with each dynamic quest.

While bandits and monsters are serious threats, you still need to eat, drink and sleep to survive. You need to set up your camp to get through the night and sometimes, the cold weather or an infectious disease might be the gravest danger you face.

Casting spells shouldn’t be as simple as pressing a button. To cast spells in Outward, you have to know the steps to the ritual and perform them in order yourself. For instance, to throw a fireball, you must use a firestone to create a fire sigil, then create a spark while standing in the middle of the magic circle to create the fiery projectile.

Deep Silver and Nine Dots Studio are excited to announce the release of a free game content update, The Permadeath, Postgame, and Poutine content patch.

To say thank you for the amazing support and feedback, Deep Silver and Nine Dots Studio would like to offer this free game content patch positively brimming with great updates!

“I never took for granted that Outward would perform well, but we wanted to trust the players’ ability to learn and adapt. I’m so glad that it paid off and it makes us that much more confident for our future development efforts.” said Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, CEO of Nine Dots Studio.

In addition to game fixes and improvements, listed below are some of the contents of the new patch.

  • Hardcore mode “Take it to the next level!” you requested it, ok now you’ve got it! With the Permadeath option, when defeated there is a chance players get a defeat scenario, but there is also a chance characters actually die permanently (save game deleted!)
  • Hidden Endgame Boss Fights We will say no more at this point, but they are waiting for you!
  • Vastly Improved Legacy Chest System
  • More End Game items
  •  Languages, languages and more languages!: Added the following languages (text only): Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Portuguese (Brazil), Turkish
  • Addition of an Unarmed attack
  • Poutine! The Quebec super food!

This update is live today on PC, and will follow shortly on other consoles.

Key Features:

  • Survive in the wilds as you explore the land
  • Play solo or cooperatively, locally or online
  • Play smart or die: you play an adventurer, not a demigod
  • Constant auto-saving means there’s no turning back. You have to put yourself in the character’s shoes and think about the situation rather than just try things and reload every now and then.
  • Dynamic defeat scenarios that reacts to your context. Losing a fight against a group of bandits won't simply have you looking at a game over screen. Instead, you might wake up to find yourself held for ransom, or being dragged into the woods and left for dead after they looted your belongings. Failure is part of life and defeat is part of the journey for any adventurer.
  • Every new playthrough offers something different. You can't be good at everything and help everyone. By replaying the game, you can play a different character, join a different faction with its own storyline, gain access to different skills and items. As a bonus, you keep a little something from your previous completed story for your next game via the Legacy system.

Outward is available for PS4, Xbox One and PC for $39.99.
