'Grounded' (ALL) Celebrates 5 Million Players With Koi Pond Early Access Update, Optimized for Xbox Series X|S

by Rainier on Nov. 10, 2020 @ 2:07 p.m. PST

Grounded is a first-person, co-op survival game. Shrunk to the size of an ant, how will you survive?

In Grounded, you are shrunk to the size of an ant and must survive in the beautiful yet perilous micro-world of a suburban backyard. This harsh and dangerous landscape can be navigated solo or with up to three additional players in co-operative multiplayer, as you work together to progress through thrilling story-based missions or explore the farthest reaches of the intricately detailed game world.

You hear the voice of a mysterious robot named BURG.L. He seems to know what’s going on and lets you know that the machine to turn you back to normal size is currently out of order. For now, everything in the backyard is trying to kill you and it’s up to you – and up to three friends, if you’re playing co-operative multiplayer – to survive the perilous landscape.

The backyard is rife with different kinds of ants, flying insects, and spiders. You must gather, craft, and build bases from scavenged items found in the backyard, searching for life-saving resources such as the dew off grass to quench your thirst or transforming an acorn shell into body armor to defend against a host of unpredictable creatures. Can you thrive against the hordes of giant insects, fighting to survive the perils of the backyard?

The team at Obsidian Entertainment has released the biggest Grounded update yet, introducing players to a brand-new biome - the underwater world of the Koi Pond.

Intrepid explorers navigating the depths of the murky pond will meet a host of new creatures, such as the Diving Bell Spiders (did you know certain spiders can swim?!), and the awe-inspiring Koi Fish. Additionally, players can craft new items to aid their survival in the pond, such as the Slime Lantern, Bone Trident, Gill Tube Rebreather, and much more.

Obsidian and Xbox Game Studios announced that Grounded’s community has brought more than 5 million players to the back yard. To celebrate, watch as Xbox Game Studios’ Marcus Morgan shows his dedication to the game and gets a tattoo of BURG.L, a valuable little robot featured in the game, and listen as Senior Artist Mitch Loidolt and Art Director Kaz Aruga provide a bit more behind-the-scenes information about the making and design of the character.

Additionally, since today is Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S launch day, we felt like it was a good time to remind you Grounded has been Optimized for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Thanks to Smart Delivery technology, players will get an automatic upgrade to the best version of the game for no additional cost. Grounded is running at 60fps on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, offering unparalleled gameplay performance for next generation console players, with full 4K support and improved draw distance and shadow quality on the Xbox Series X. Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S users will experience increased graphical fidelity, improved loading times, and HDR support.

To summarize, you want to: Go Big Or Never Go Home.

Available through Xbox Game Preview with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Steam Early Access, Grounded will be available for Xbox One digitally through Xbox Game Pass, and PC (Microsoft Store/Steam) in 2020.
