'Apex Legends' (ALL) Kicks Off Season 8, Gets Nintendo Switch Release Date

by Rainier on Feb. 2, 2021 @ 3:38 p.m. PST

Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends is a free to play battle royale game with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?

As Season 8 - Mayhem goes into full swing, EA and Respawn Entertainment are proud to announce that Apex Legends will launch on Nintendo Switch worldwide on March 9, bringing the revolutionary character-based battle royale experience to even more gamers and those looking to compete away from the big screen.

Together with Panic Button, a team known for their best-in-class ports on Nintendo Switch, Apex Legends will be available on its smallest screen yet and available to even more players who can compete together through cross-platform play. In the two years since Apex Legends launched, Respawn has continued to innovate in the multiplayer battle-royale genre and connect new players through more platforms. 2021 will continue to excite and surprise players as Respawn aims to expand the scope of the arena to give players even more ways to compete and those new to the game more reasons to come play.

"Since we’re launching a few weeks after the start of Season 8, Switch players will be granted 30 free levels for their Season 8 Battle Pass. For the first two weeks after launch, playing on Switch will also earn you double XP. We can’t wait to welcome Switch players to the arena. Keep an eye out for more news about the latest updates we’re bringing to Apex Legends," said Apex Legends Game Director Chad Grenier.

Today also marks the official release of Season 8 - Mayhem as the character-based battle royale game that took the world by storm celebrates its two year anniversary. Season 8 - Mayhem introduces the game’s 16th Legend to the arena with Salvo Mercenary, Walter “Fuse” Fitzroy, bringing mayhem to the sport like never before. Fuse’s explosive brand of fun will be doubled with the debut of the 30-30 Repeater lever-action rifle, new items like Gold Magazine, as well as an overhaul to the iconic Kings Canyon map which includes new areas to explore and battle across.

The innovations don’t stop there as Apex Legends also delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.

Apex Legends is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, coming to Nintendo Switch on March 9, 2021.
