'Apex Legends' Thrillseekers In-Game Event Revealed, Starts Next Week - Trailer

by Rainier on July 7, 2021 @ 6:23 p.m. PDT

Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends is a free to play battle royale game with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?

Today, Respawn and EA announced the latest Apex Legends in-game event, Thrillseekers, which will run from July 13 through August 3. Ushering in a new Arenas map that turns the floor into deadly lava, the Thrillseekers event features a new rewards track and splashy new skins that are sure to turn heads.

Below is a quick recap of all the activities players can expect:

  • New Arenas Map: Overflow - Overflow differs from other Arena maps by being lane focused, where each location is separated by tall, lava-filled structures. Due to the separation, players will need to stay vigilant before committing to a side or risk being flanked. This map marks the 7th map added to the ongoing three map rotation, highlighting the ever evolving eco-sphere that is Apex Legends.
  • Rewards Track - Each week of the event offers back-to-back rewards tracks. Week one gives players a chance to unlock the Rampart Wastelander Set, which includes a matching gun charm, weapon skin and a Legendary Rampart skin. Week two grants Battle Pass boosters, crafting metals and Apex packs. Week three includes the Lethal Enforcer Bangalore Skin and more.
  • Thrillseekers Cosmetics and Summer Splash Sale - Kicking off July 13, the Summer Splash Sale will run through July 27, bringing back fan-favorite skins including Youngblood and Voidwalker, in addition to running sales on Apex packs.

New Arenas Map: Overflow

The floor is lava! Well, some of it, anyway.

Overflow differs from other Arena maps by being lane focused; where each location is separated by tall, lava-filled structures. With this separation, players cannot easily spot early decisions made by the other team and will need to stay vigilant before committing to a side or risk being flanked. While there are opportunities for long-range engagements, combat tends to favor short-to-medium ranges along either POI: Overlook or Slope.

Overlook is a long, open area with a central interior that gives a height advantage over this POI. While this area is perfect for snipers or DMRs, players may want to hold the interior to control not only this area but their flank as well. Slope, as the name implies, offers both a high ground and a unique area where players can slide down to a remote part of the map. This area can be used for sneaky flanks or defensive setups where players may not expect it.

Overflow feels pretty different from our other maps, and our hope is that it will feel rewarding for both defensive and aggressive players alike. Let us know what you think!

Weekly Rewards Tracks

Let’s talk about the good stuff: unlockables. For the three weeks of the event, we’re running back-to-back rewards tracks:

  • Week one gives you a chance to unlock the Rampart Wastelander Set, which includes a matching gun charm, weapon skin, and a Legendary Rampart skin.
  • Week two grants Battle Pass boosters, crafting metals, and Apex packs.
  • Week three includes the Lethal Enforcer Bangalore Skin, along with other goodies!

You can earn over 1,000 points per day and challenges refresh daily. There are also stretch challenges that reward four unique badges if you complete them during the event. All of these challenges also stack with your Battle Pass, so you can complete multiple at once.

There will also be three specific badges you can unlock—one each week—for reaching certain milestones in Arenas:

  • Week 1 Badge: Play 20 Arena Games Total
  • Week 2 Badge: Get 100 Knockdowns Total in Arenas
  • Week 3 Badge: Deal 12,000 Damage Total in Arenas

Thrillseekers Cosmetics and Summer Splash Sale

Also kicking off on 7/13 is The Summer Splash Sale. For a couple of weeks, we’re bringing back fan-favorite skins—including Youngblood and Voidwalker!—and running some enticing sales on Apex packs. Check out the store once the event begins and check back daily to see what we’ve got. The Summer Splash Sale runs until 7/27.

All these cosmetics are Event Limited. They may return in a future event or promotion.

That’s all, Legends! See you in the Arena.

The innovations don’t stop there as Apex Legends also delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.

Apex Legends is now available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
