'I Am Fish' Shows Off Some Of Its Environments, Playable PC Demo Still Available - Screens

by Rainier on Aug. 13, 2021 @ 9:21 a.m. PDT

I Am Fish sees players navigating one plucky fish through traps, trials and tribulations on epic journeys to the freedom of the ocean.

The game takes the mix of physics platforming and control-scheme-battling seen in I Am Bread and sets it free in an ocean of opportunity. Players can expect more thrilling highs and more crushing defeats, all wrapped up in the best of Bossa’s humour.

I Am Fish was originally part of the Bossa Presents prototype initiative in October 2019. This initiative saw free prototypes of I Am FishPigeon Simulator and Trash Bandits released to players worldwide for them to enjoy and provide feedback on. Bossa Studios has now set the bowl rolling on turning I Am Fish from a prototype to a full sequel to I Am Bread, rebuilt from the ground up and full of the features requested by a wonderful deluge of players during Bossa Presents.

I Am Fish is a charming adventure starring four intrepid fish friends, forcibly separated from their home in a pet shop fish tank. Throughout the game, players will join them as they swim, fly, roll, and chomp their way to the open ocean from the far-flung corners of Barnardshire (the smallest county in England) in their bid for freedom and to reunite once again.

While I Am Fish's cute protagonist may give the impression that the game is a safe, family-friendly affair, this is not what developer Bossa Studios is angling for.

Audiences may have already witnessed the plucky Goldfish get lanced by a used syringe in the game's sewer section, but this is the tip of the iceberg in terms of the type of risky and risqué scenarios the fishy pals will find themselves in later in the game.

The selection of new screenshots includes the unfortunate syringe-meets-eye scenario, as well as never-before-seen environments, including Barnardshire County's pothole-riddled roads with their high-speed car threat and the county's hospital. The latter is a clear example of why a Piranha should never be left alone with a blood pack! Just imagine the scale of the potential disaster if it found the entire hospital blood supply. Bossa wouldn't, would they?

Relatively more serene is a spot of freshwater fishing, though still a potentially harrowing experience for Pufferfish. Finally, we gain a sneak-peek into Barnardshire's hottest nightspot, including a view of a somewhat inebriated local.

These screenshots show just how much of the gameplay inI Am Fish takes place outside the confines of the fishbowl and provides even greater insight into just how diverse the game's environments promise to be.

A playable PC demo is still available on Steam.

The game features four playable fish: a Goldfish, Pufferfish, Flying Fish, and Piranha each with their own unique personality, abilities, and aquatic adventuring styles. Today’s trailer shows just how deeply these plucky explorers can think outside the bowl on their journey to fishy freedom. Fans of charming, daresay...wholesome...fun will be challenged to bring the four piscine pet shop pals back together through hilarious physics-based challenges!

Whilst sleepy Barnardshire is an idyllic coastal hideaway, it isn’t without its dangers! Our four fin-tastic friends will have to navigate threats such as crossing roads, traversing rooftops, dodging deep fat fryers and avoiding hungry wildlife, making e-fish-ient use of jars, wheeled mop buckets, and more to reach the final goal — the deep, vast ocean!

I Am Fish is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) in Q3 2021.
