'Street Fighter V' Adding New Characters And Stage This Month, Final Character Later This Year, Fornite Crossover - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 3, 2021 @ 3:08 p.m. PDT

Street Fighter V is the latest installment in the fighting franchise, adding new fighters, several new locations, and cross-platform play.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition is the most robust version of the acclaimed fighting game.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition includes all content (excluding Fighting Chance costumes, brand collaboration costumes and Capcom Pro Tour DLC) from both the original release and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Champion Edition adds each character, stage and other content that released after Arcade Edition and will include all launch content coming to this new version. In total, this robust edition of Street Fighter V features 40 characters, 34 stages and over 200 costumes. Fighters can battle their way through a variety of exciting single-player and multi-player modes designed for players of all skill levels, including Story Mode, Arcade Mode, Team Battle, Ranked Match, Casual Match and more.

Champion Edition also heralds the return of Gill, the leader of the Secret Society and the end boss of the Street Fighter III series. Gill is a master of both pyrokinesis and cryokinesis, allowing him to control fire and ice with perfect elemental balance (hence his outward appearance). Typically plotting behind the scenes, Gill is now ready to reveal himself to the world, as he sets out to fulfill the prophecy that the Secret Society has coveted since ancient times.

Announced during its Street Fighter V Summer Update 2021 digital program, Capcom revealed the fifth character for Season 5 of Street Fighter V and the final fighter to be added to the game.

Luke, an entirely new character that promises to have a bright Street Fighter future ahead of him, will join the illustrious roster when he is released in November 2021.

Also shared during the digital event, the wandering hermit Oro, Rival Schools biker Akira Kazama, and a new stage will all become available in Street Fighter V on August 16.

Revealed by Street Fighter V Director Takayuki Nakayama and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto during Summer Update 2021, Luke is the fifth character for Season 5 and marks the final fighter added to Street Fighter V, bringing the total roster to 45. This brand new character will help expand the world of Street Fighter and provide fans with a glimpse into the future. Based off the brief gameplay video that was shown, Luke is a fighter that specializes in moving fast and hitting hard, so opponents will need to be on high alert and brace for impact. More backstory information and gameplay details will be shared leading up to Luke’s November 2021 release.

After a long journey away, Oro the wandering hermit from the Street Fighter III series is returning in Street Fighter V ready to share his wit and wisdom with anyone who’s interested. Wearing a modest purple robe and brown rope belt, Oro swaps his pet turtle between his right and left hands as a way to challenge himself and maintain a balanced fighting style. Oro retains many of his original moves and adds a handful of new ones for Street Fighter V, making him an immensely powerful fighter for players to master.

  • Oro’s V-Skill I is called “Onibi,”which summons a bouncing orb projectile that can bounce at three different trajectories.
  • Oro’s V-Skill II is “Minomushi,” that has Oro executing a short hop that has two different follow-up attacks: “Kaki Otoshi,” an overhead attack or “Eda Uchi,” a safer on block kick.
  • Oro’s V-Trigger I is called “Manrikitan,” which gives Oro access to his command grabs called “Kishinriki” and “Kishin Kuchu Jigoku Guruma” and can be performed on the ground and in the air, respectively.
  • Oro’s “Tengu Stone” returns as his V-Trigger II where Oro summons three objects that can be used to make combos possible that weren’t before.
  • If you hold Down while activating V-Trigger II, “Tengu Midare Stone” will activate instead and produce five objects. This makes combos even more powerful but will drain the V-Gauge faster.

Making her highly-anticipated Street Fighter debut, Akira Kazama began her fighting game career in the Rival Schools series, which began in 1997. In Street Fighter V, Akira dons her trademark black biker gear and prides herself on being the strong, silent type. That said, her playstyle speaks volumes when she’s at close range, but she’s also equipped with some long-distance moves that will leave her opponents thinking twice about straying too far. With plenty of new tricks up her biker gloves, Akira has been studying up and will be ready to school anyone who crosses her path.

  • “Kiko Kai” is a short ranged blast of energy that comes from Akira’s hands. The EX version has a longer range and comes out much faster.
  • “Urarimon” is a fast, forward-moving elbow strike. This move allows Akira to close in space and deal good damage and is best used as a combo ender.
  • Her “Senshubu” kick has low, medium, and high variations to hit at all angles and has a follow up kick after.
  • Akira’s V-Skill I “Kiko Rensei,” enhances her “Kiko Kai” by adding more hits and damage to the attack.
  • Her V-Skill II is called “Tsutenda,” where Akira will launch her opponents into the air allowing for follow up attacks. These airborne combos are called “Air Bursts.”Akira’s V-Trigger I is “Otoko No Senaka.” Akira’s brother Daigo drops down from the sky and strikes the opponent, then explodes with a burst of energy!
  • Her V-Trigger II is “Haten no Kamae,” which puts Akira in a special stance where she can execute three different follow-up attacks.

Each follow up attack has unique attributes and you can cancel the stance and go for a throw instead! Use this V-Trigger to extend your combos or open up opponents with frame traps and mixups.

Alongside the playable character Akira, “Rival Riverside” is a new Street Fighter V stage that has been reimagined from Akira’s Rival Schools days. Rival Riverside, a Rival Schools stage near a river and near Akira’s school, Gedo High School is a new stage that will be arriving alongside Akira, on August 16. The sunset means it’s after school hours, so you might see some other Rival Schools characters hanging around too.

Oro, Akira, and Luke can be acquired with the Street Fighter V Season 5 Character Pass or Premium Pass. Oro, Akira, and Akira’s brand new stage “Rival Riverside” will all be available starting August 16. Luke, the freshly announced new fighter coming to Street Fighter V, will be released in November 2021. All additional characters, including these final three, can also each be purchased separately for MSRP $5.99 or 100,000 Fight Money and extra stages can each be acquired for MSRP $3.99 or 70,000 Fight Money.

The free Online Tournament Mode will be launching alongside Oro and Akira on August 16 and will be available to all players. Through this mode you’ll be able to create and participate in your own online tournaments with friends, Dojo members, and anyone from SFV community! You’ll be able to tinker with a wider variety of rule sets to make your tournaments as wild or restrictive as you want. We’ll have more information on this mode very soon, including some fun tournaments hosted by us, so stay tuned!

To help celebrate the launch of Oro, Akira, and Online Tournament Mode, we’re offering a Free Trial lasting August 4 through August 18 which gives access to all characters in Seasons 1-4.

In addition to all the SFV news, we also announced our second collaboration with Fortnite! Guile and Cammy will be joining Fortnite as new outfits with unique emotes, obtainable for a limited time starting August 7. Also, be sure to check out the Cammy Cup tournament hosted by the Fortnite team, happening on August 5.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition includes all content (excluding Fighting Chance costumes, brand collaboration costumes and Capcom Pro Tour DLC) from both the original release and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Champion Edition adds each character, stage and other content that released after Arcade Edition and through the launch of this new version. In total, this robust edition of Street Fighter V features 40 characters, 34 stages and over 200 costumes.
