'F1 2021' Reveals Free Content and Updates, Starting Today With New Circuit, Car, Console Demo - Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 13, 2021 @ 10:00 a.m. PDT

F1 2021 is a new next-generation racing experience, featuring the teams, drivers and circuits for the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Introducing a brand-new story mode, expanded Career mode with two-player option, and three new circuits, Portimão, Imola, and Jeddah, available to all players as free post-launch content, F1 2021 gives players more ways to feel the emotion of competing at the highest level in the pinnacle of motorsport.

In Braking Point, the brand-new story mode, players take on an epic journey, as they rise from the ranks of Formula 2 to a shot at stardom in the world of Formula 1. It immerses players into the glamorous world of F1, giving a taste of the lifestyle both on and off the track: the rivalries, emotion and dedication needed to compete at the highest level. It also re-introduces players to the much-maligned Devon Butler, who makes his return having debuted in F1 2019.

F1 2021, the official videogame of the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship, expands its iconic Career mode with a new two-player option that allows friends to join online and play co-operatively or choose different teams and take rivalries to the track in synchronous race sessions. Each driver has complete control over their assists, allowing players of all levels to come together and compete. Career mode also introduces Real-Season Start, enabling players to begin at any point in the season with real-time driver and constructor standings.

Across all formats, returning features include driver-manager experience My Team, two-player split-screen, shorter season options for both F1 and F2, esports integration and accessible menus and handling. For the first time, F1 2021 comes to Xbox Series X|S and PS5, boasting a visual uplift and faster loading times.

Codemasters and Electronic Arts released a new F1 2021 trailer packed with information on all the upcoming free content and updates.

The highlight is the addition of Portimao, home of the Portuguese Grand Prix, available now from today to all F1 2021 players. Also available is the updated vehicle performance, reflecting the 2021 season more closely and the Aston Martin safety car, complementing the existing Mercedes AMG GT R.

Portimao is the first of three circuits added to the F1 calendar for the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship. The free update allows players to re-write history following Lewis Hamilton’s win in May. Imola, home to Max Verstappen’s first win of the season, will be available in October, followed by Jeddah in November ahead of its debut as the season’s penultimate race. F1 2021 will also include several updates throughout the remainder of the F1 and F2 season. Timings are as follows:

“We’re thrilled to finally release our first free circuit and update our players on what’s to come in the months ahead,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Senior Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Our players have let us know how excited they are to experience the new 2021 season circuits, and Jeddah will be a highlight releasing a few weeks before it makes its F1 debut in December.”

Xbox and PlayStation players can also try F1 2021 for free with a trial available now to download via the respective digital stores. The trial allows players to sample the opening of Braking Point alongside a Grand Prix at Monza and the opening weekend for My Team.

Players who pre-order the game will receive the Braking Point Content Pack, a set of exclusive in-game items inspired by the fictional stars of the new story experience, and 5,000 PitCoins. Benefits for the digital Deluxe include seven soon-to-be-unveiled iconic F1 drivers for use in My Team, complete with customization content, 18,000 PitCoins, the Braking Point Content Pack, and three days early access.

F1 2021 supports Xbox Smart Delivery and PlayStation’s free upgrade when players switch to an Xbox Series X|S or PS5.
