'Project Winter' Comes To Nintendo Switch And PS4 Later This Month - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 3, 2021 @ 6:00 a.m. PDT

Project Winter is an 8-person, multiplayer game focused on social deception and survival where players are randomly assigned to the role of Traitor or Survivor.

Cut off from all external communications, surrounded by icy tundra, and covered in a thick blanket of paranoia and suspicion, the eight-person multiplayer game strands players in the freezing wilderness where they must work together to escape the approaching blizzard as well as the deathly intentions of fellow team members.

The survivors must battle against the freezing elements as well as the traitors in their midst who will deceive, sabotage, and even commit murder to thwart their teammates’ efforts to escape. For the players that encounter wild animals or murderous teammates on their travels, there’s a variety of weapons they can use to gain the upper hand and cling desperately to any chance of survival.

Communication and teamwork are essential to Survivors’ ultimate goal of escape. You’ll discover secret traitors within the group who steadily gain strength as the match progresses.

Developer Other Ocean Interactive announced that Project Winter will be making its way onto the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop.

Players will be able to enjoy this game of scavenging, crafting and social deception on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility when it launches on September 16, 2021.

“We are excited that Project Winter will feature crossplay, allowing PlayStation and Switch players to join our community of over one million survivors who’ve been uncovering traitors, backstabbing their teammates, and battling the elements since launch,” said Other Ocean’s Product Director, Ryan Hale.

New PlayStation and Nintendo Switch players will have access to the same features as PC and Xbox players in their quest for survival and escape, including text chat, emotes and proximity voice channels. No matter what platform they’re playing on, the icy and unforgiving wilderness of Project Winter provides all gamers with a challenge like no other, filled with sabotage, betrayal, murderous teammates and a handful of starving grizzly bears.

Key Features

  • Escape to Survive - As a survivor among a group of strangers, you will have to collect resources, battle the elements and complete a series of tasks to call in one of several rescue vehicles.
  • Hidden Roles - Among the group of survivors lurk hidden traitors. The traitors are known to each other but not the survivors. Their goal is to stop the survivors from escaping without being identified and killed.
  • Teamwork - Survivors cannot escape unless they work together. Players who wander off on their own will have difficulty surviving the elements, can fall victim to hostile wildlife, or become easy targets for the traitors.
  • Communication - There are several ways to communicate with other players, including proximity-based voice chat, private voice chat radio channels, text chat, and emotes - communication is vital if the survivors have any hope of completing their tasks and defending against the traitors.
  • Betrayal & Deception - The traitors are outnumbered and weak when the game begins, they may infiltrate the survivors and earn their trust while they build up their strength. Survivors can never be 100% sure of who to trust. The traitors can take advantage of this by spreading lies and setting the survivors against each other.

Currently available for PC (Steam, Humble Bundle, and Greenman Gaming), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Project Winter is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS5 (backwards compatibility) on September 16, 2021.
