'Blood Bowl III' Kicks Off Week-Long Closed Beta

by Rainier on Jan. 25, 2022 @ 11:46 a.m. PST

Blood Bowl III is a turn-based strategy game inspired by American football set in the Warhammer fantasy world.

Strap on your boots, don your helmet, adjust your shoulder guards and chest plate… and slip a sharpened dagger into your belt (it's the rules).

The iconic death sport returns with the new video game of fantasy football faithfully using the latest board game rules and new content. Create your team, then crush, mulch and cheat your way to the top... leaving your opponents in the graveyard.

Blood Bowl III is a videogame of fantasy football where elves, humans, orcs and other creatures fight for the ball with shoulder charges, kicks, punches and weapons of varying degrees of lethality (and legality by the ref). As the coach, you must give instructions to your players: hinder the progress of your opponents by positioning them in your tackle zone, knock down those who get in your way, and break through to your opponents' end zone to score a touchdown!

All your units can gain experience and receive statistic bonuses or new skills. However, be careful: injuries are common, especially when the referee is a goblin who tends to overlook most forms of violence. Some players may even leave the field limp and lifeless, putting an early and definitive end to their careers.

Publisher Nacon and developer Cyanide announced the start of a new closed beta phase for Blood Bowl 3, starting today and running February 3, 2022 (9am CET).

This beta is only available to players who registered during the beta last June and is a chance for them to try out all the improvements added to the game over the last few months. With enhancements to the user interface, smoother gameplay and other improvements from user feedback, Cyanide has listened to the community to offer a Blood Bowl experience that more closely matches fans' expectations.

Like in the previous beta, users can play with the Black Orcs, Imperial Nobility and Elven Union in tactical turn-based matches against other players (online and offline) or against the AI. Finally, a new team of bruisers arrives to show off their tenacity on the field: the Dwarfs.

Blood Bowl III is a faithful adaptation of the Games Workshop board game, which is to receive a new edition this year. The game will use the new edition rules, teams (including the new Black Orcs and Imperial Nobility), units and associated skills. The best strategists will obviously be at an advantage, but will that be enough? All it takes is one unfortunate roll of the dice to change the course of a match.

Funnier, bloodier and more spectacular than ever, Blood Bowl III will be a hit with fans of the universe and competitive players alike. At launch, the game will include 12 races, each with their own arena and team of cheerleaders, campaign and multiplayer modes, and loads of customization options. Regular content updates will be added after launch.

Brutal, crazy, tactical… this is BLOOD BOWL!

Blood Bowl III will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch in 2022.
