'Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home' Gets Nintendo Switch And PC Date - Trailer

by Rainier on Oct. 10, 2022 @ 2:42 p.m. PDT

Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home is a 2.5D platformer we follow the story of a dog named Bea, who has been sent into space.

Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home is a story about self-discovery and our understanding of the world around us. Players join Bea on her epic adventures, meeting friendly (and not so friendly!) creatures from outer space.

Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home will appeal to fans of titles such as Ori and the Blind Forest, Inside, Limbo, and Journey. The game is inspired by real-world events, from when people began investing in space exploration. Many intrepid animals paved our way to the stars – and saw up close what people would encounter years later. In Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home, Bea is the only animal to survive the journey…

Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home is going to be a game for everyone – young or old, it will test your skills in logical thinking and creativity; however, these puzzles won’t distract from the story. The narrative is vitally important to the experience and has been created in cooperation with Łukasz Palkowski, award-winning polish director and screenwriter. Bea’s adventures will also be accompanied by a soundtrack from two, critically acclaimed polish composers, Jan Sanejko and Bartosz Chajdecki.

“Exactly 65 years before the release of Space Tail, the first dog, Laika, went to space and allowed humans to explore places beyond Earth’s atmosphere. We would call the team working on the game “dog people” so we paid a lot of attention to making sure that our protagonist is a true canine and not another platforming hero in dog skin. This is reflected in the mechanics of the game - Bea can use her senses (smell, taste, sight, hearing) to solve puzzles and she also does the usual dog stuff that we all love about our pets so much (rolling over, barking at objects, digging or trying to catch her own tail),” says Albert Rokicki, CEO of Longterm Games.

Gameplay in Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home is based on three mechanics: senses, relationships, and companions.

  • Senses - Bea is not a superdog. She doesn’t have any superhuman – or to be precise: superdog – powers. Just like any other dog, she can only rely on her senses: smell, sight, and hearing. These are the basics of “detective mode”, which will help her reach destinations and protect her from danger. In the unknown environments she can only rely on her instinct.
  • Companions – While traveling across different worlds, Bea will befriend two entities: Comet Rose and the robot 8088Y. They will accompany her through most of the game, helping her solve puzzles and protect her – they will also influence the game’s ending. Each companion has unique abilities, which the player will have to use at the right moments throughout the game.
  • Relationships – During her journey Bea will meet many extra-terrestrials. Some of them will be friendly, others will treat Bea as a threat. Players can interact with the creatures and communicate through the dialog system. This is based on the behavior of dogs - to create a bond, find a common language and help each other. However, you need to take care because every action will have consequences.

“Space Tail should be fun, in the first place, but also make players think, because it’s not a simple story about a dog in space. It’s our homage to every animal who leads our way to the stars and our journey to times, where every one of us played retro platformers” – said Robert Ogłodziński, Executive Producer in Longterm Games.

Space Tail: Every Journey Leads Home is coming to PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch on November 3, 2022, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S to follow at a later date.
