'Fortnite' Celebrates The NBA's 75th Anniversary With Crossover Event, NBA All-Star 2022

by Rainier on Feb. 16, 2022 @ 9:39 a.m. PST

Fortnite is an expansive original world that invites players to be creative, resourceful and collaborative, combining building skills and destructible environments with intense PvP combat.

In Fortnite, players and their friends lead a group of Heroes to reclaim and rebuild a homeland that has been left empty by a mysterious darkness only known as “the Storm.”

Players will band together online to explore the world for resources, build extravagant forts, find or build insane weapons and traps as they protect their towns from the strange monsters that emerge during the Storm.

Fortnite Battle Royale is the FREE 100-player PvP mode in Fortnite. One giant map. A battle bus.

The last one standing wins.

In celebration of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Season and NBA All-Star 2022, for the first time ever players can now vote for which NBA celebration they would like to see turned into a future Emote in the game. Check out the details here. This is the second time the NBA has brought an immersive experience to millions of Fortnite players around the world, after the Fortnite x NBA cross over in May 2021

Time to lace up -- the NBA has joined Fortnite for the first time with a partnership that brings basketball to nearly every part of the game.

Players can rep their favorite team inside Fortnite with the all-new “In the Paint Set,” which includes Outfits for all 30 NBA teams and a variety of customization options. The new Outfits entered the Item Shop on May 21 and are available until May 29.  NBA sensations Donovan Mitchell and Trae Young are also launching their personal favorite Fortnite Locker Bundles (Outfits and accessories), starting tomorrow, May 25, and available until May 31.

Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover has already enabled Fortnite players to put points on the board for their favorite team in Fortnite’s largest Team Battles Tournament ever. For five days (May 19-23), players all contributed to a leaderboard and helped crown the reigning NBA team in Fortnite - the Los Angeles Lakers team was victorious, followed by the Chicago Bulls and the Brooklyn Nets.

“We’re excited to see this crossover partnership between Epic and the NBA go live as the 2021 NBA Playoffs are underway,” said Matt Holt, Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships at the National Basketball Association. “We know that many of the league’s players and millions of basketball fans around the world play Fortnite, and are glad they can now represent their favorite team and experience the NBA through the game”.

Starting tomorrow, basketball and the NBA are also taking over Fortnite Creative mode with the all-new NBA Welcome Hub. Live through May 31, the Hub features two brand new Creative Mode features, including a directly shoppable experience for the NBA Outfits as well as video screens that will feature NBA highlights throughout the week - the first time that  Fortnite has integrated video content into the game’s Creative mode.  Players can also use the Hub to jump into ‘Court Crashers’ - a brand new creative experience available for a limited time only, where players can launch themselves sky high through a series of obstacles and dunk into a massive hoop to score points alongside their teammates.

“The NBA represents so much more than basketball - it’s at the forefront of global culture, and one of the top things that Fortnite players tell us they want to see inside the game,” said Adam Sussman, President at Epic Games. “Entertainment and sports are critical parts of building a metaverse at Epic and within Fortnite, and partners like the NBA are helping to make it happen. This is just the beginning and we can’t wait to share more.”

In celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Season and NBA All-Star 2022, the league has joined Fortnite once again!

Although fan voting has concluded for who will play in the NBA All-Star Game (happening Feb. 20 at 8 PM ET!), fans can now vote for which NBA celebration they want turned into a future Emote in Fortnite. Voting starts now in the NBA 75 All-Star Hub, made by creator team Atlas Creative! When you’re not voting, shoot hoops, hang out with friends, and browse iconic NBA highlights.

This occasion is a full-court press: new and returning NBA Outfits are in the Item Shop now along with a new Back Bling for repping your favorite team!

Votes and High Hoops in the NBA 75 All-Star Hub

For the first time ever, Fortnite players can vote in-game for a future Emote! Live now until 10 AM ET on February 23, 2022, explore the NBA 75 All-Star Hub and its many amenities, including indoor and outdoor basketball courts, photo booths, and lounge areas. The outside area is a section of “NBA Lane,” a nod to the NBA’s season-long campaign in celebration of NBA 75!

The “Vote to Emote” screen in NBA Lane is where you’ll weigh in on the NBA celebration you want as a future Emote. Choose between three iconic celebrations of members of the 2022 NBA All-Star team! Their celebrations will display on the Vote to Emote screen.

You can vote up to five times daily in the Hub. Voting is active until 10 AM ET on February 23, 2022. After voting has ended, keep an eye on our social channels to find out the winning celebration!

Finished voting for the day? Sink enough baskets in the Hub and you’ll net some XP and the High Hoops Spray. (For more info, see the NBA 75 All-Star Hub Quests. 🏀)

Here are some preview shots of the Hub before jumping in!

All-Star Locker: New and Returning NBA Outfits

Just in time for the new Hub, wear NBA 75 warmups with the new NBA 75 Set, or wear a uniform from any NBA team with the returning In The Paint Set! These items of both Sets are available in the Shop now.

There are ten Outfits in the NBA 75 Set, each with three Styles of a different color: default diamond, red, and gray. Also, display a holographic logo of any of the league’s 30 teams with the NBA Beacon Back Bling! You can switch which team to rep in your Locker.

Speaking of repping a team, the ten Outfits of the In The Paint Set come with uniforms of all 30 NBA teams. Like with the NBA Beacon Back Bling, switch to the team you want to rep by going to your Locker. Two new uniforms have been added to commemorate the Hub: All-Star ‘22 Red and All-Star ‘22 Gray!

Accessories of the In The Paint Set have returned as well, including the Dribblin’ Emote, the Mini Hoop and NBA Championship Trophy Back Blings, and the Hookshot Toy.

Fortnite is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Android and iOS.
