'Die After Sunset' Early Access Update Adds New Character, Items And More

by Rainier on May 18, 2022 @ 10:29 a.m. PDT

Die After Sunset is a third-person roguelike shooter featuring open environments where the difference between light and shadow is particularly important.

Cartoon aesthetics, power-ups, gigantic final bosses and a plethora of playable characters will come together in a shooter in which each game will be a different adventure.

Die After Sunset is an original third-person roguelike shooter featuring open environments where the difference between light and shadow is particularly important.

In each level the player will have to get the best possible equipment among a selection of crazy artifacts. It depends on it to be able to overcome all the challenges and to unravel the mystery behind the Murkor invasion, some nice alien beings at first sight... until they are covered by the darkness.

Journalist April Blazestrong is the initial and main character on Die After Sunset; investigating the inner workings of a crashed alien ship she activates her Artificial Intelligence which, against all odds, will help her stop the Murkor invasion. Thanks to the AI, April will have the direction, technology and weapons needed to unlock the secrets of the invasion, but she must do so before the sun sets.

PQube and developer Playstark are pleased to release the next Steam Early Access update for Die After Sunset.

As of right now, gamers can enjoy an entirely new way to play with a brand-new character. 'Hune' is the third character players can choose to battle against the Murkor hordes!

Hune was a brilliant young scientist who, despite her age, proved to be a true genius of technology and genetic engineering. To try and bolster their research, the Murkors kidnapped and forced her to work for them. When she wouldn't comply, Hune became the research. The Murkors experimented on her body, building her to be a weapon to fight the humans. This quickly became their biggest regret, when Hune finally broke free and took her revenge...

Lasers, Lasers, Lasers....

When Hune was kidnapped, the Murkors experimented heavily with her body - installing lasers directly into her fingers. They didn't realise that, on her release, she could use her new found weapons against them.

Missiles; maximum damage, minimal effort.

Missiles were originally installed on Hune for the Murkors to demolish human infrastructure, now, they regret they ever experimented on her. Maximum damage over minimal time - Hune's missiles take enemies out swiftly!

And now, you float.

The Murkors have always been interested in bending the fabric of earth's gravity. Their first experiments were on Hune. While they learned a lot, once Hune broke free from their labs, she used her new found gravity ability against them.

Breaking space and time...

Teleportation has been a key to the Murkors' invasion of earth. Stupidly, they handed those keys directly over to the humans when Hune broke out - giving her the ability to cover ground instantly.

There's even more to come!

We will be adding new levels, items, missions and constantly tweaking Die After Sunset with the help of community feedback.

Update #3 (Coming Soon)

The Final Level - New Missions - New Murkor - Fixes - Item Balancing

In the next update you'll go head-to-head with NegaMurk...

The alien creature that is responsible for the attack on Earth. Take on the game's final boss in a brand new level that'll test your skills to the limits.

To make matters worse, a brand new Murkor-type plagues the map. Luckily, you'll have a new batch of missions to help power yourself up to help tackle this new infestation!

Luckily, April won't be facing the Murkors alone, as she will unlock playable characters to help her in her quest as she progresses through the levels. Each one of them will bring new specific skills that will offer the player different ways to face the invasion.

Playing Die After Sunset means fighting a countdown at every level, which marks the inevitable arrival of one of the Murkor leaders. The player has to manage to delay the appearance of the boss as much as possible by completing randomly generated and assigned missions in real time: Destroy Murkor nests that are about to explode, prevent these aliens from eating the museum pieces, manage to reactivate the electricity to avoid running out of light...

Coming out victorious in these missions with the best possible result will offer unique improvements to the player and the extra time needed to make it to the head of the area and advance to the next adventure a little closer to nightfall.

Key Features:

  • Battle alien forces against the clock to prevent them extinguishing the sun and thwart their invasion
  • Chaotic third-person shooter with unique light and dark mechanics
