'Valheim' Comes to Xbox One And Xbox Series X|S In Spring 2023, Also Comes To PC Game Pass - Trailer

by Rainier on June 14, 2022 @ 10:17 a.m. PDT

Valheim is an exploration and survival game set in a procedurally generated world, offering players unlimited freedom to build and live the saga of their dreams, cooperatively or alone.

Are you worthy of entering Valhalla? You have been sent to Valheim, the 10th Norse world. Only by defeating the mighty beasts of these lands will you win the favor of the gods. This quest will take you to the far reaches of this world, from the deepest forest to the highest mountain peak.

Valheim is an open-world exploration survival game set in a vast procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by norse mythology and viking culture. Players are tasked with taking back the realm from the ancient enemies of Odin, building mead halls and castles, crafting weapons and armour, and sailing the seas in search of new horizons and win the favor of the gods.

Valheim is a game about exploring a huge fantasy world inspired by norse mythology and viking culture. You start your adventure at the relatively peaceful center of Valheim. The further from the center you travel, the more challenging the world becomes. But you will also find more valuable materials that you can use to craft deadlier weapons and sturdier armor. You will also build your own viking strongholds and outposts all over the world. Eventually you will build a mighty longship and sail the great oceans in search of exotic lands … but be wary of sailing too far...

Valheim is a huge procedurally-generated world, inviting players to explore lush forests, snow-topped mountain ranges and mystical meadows, all presented in striking Lo-Fi graphics. Valheim offers a dodge & block based combat system with a wide range of weapons for deathless vikings to battle primordial bosses of myth and legend. The viking adventure is playable solo, or with up to nine friends as no one wants to repeatedly face death alone. Between deaths, Valheim offers a flexible house and base building system, intuitive item crafting and ship building, and dedicated servers.

Revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase Extended, Coffee Stain and Iron Gate are pleased to announce that Valheim will be heading to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2023, and will join the impressive library of games on Xbox Game Pass.

The new announcement trailer also revealed that the hit Viking survival game will soon be available for hordes of new PC players, as Valheim will also be introduced to Xbox’s PC Game Pass catalogue, alongside a launch on the Microsoft  Store, in Fall 2022.

Both the upcoming Microsoft Store and Xbox console releases will have full crossplay support on launch, allowing Vikings to build, fight and survive together in the dangerous Norse afterlife, whether they’re playing on Steam, Microsoft Store or console.

Developers Piktiv and Fishlabs have been enlisted to lead development of the Microsoft Store release and upcoming 2023 Xbox port to ensure new PC customers and Xbox users can enjoy the best performance possible on launch, while also allowing Iron Gate to continue the smooth development of the core Valheim experience and its next major update milestones.

“We’re beyond delighted to see the world of Valheim and our amazing community open up to even more people, and let our PC Vikings team up with their console shield brothers and sisters in the near future.” said Henrik Törnqvist, co-founder of Iron Gate. “None of this would be possible without the incredible teams at Piktiv and Fishlabs who are continuing to work tirelessly on the Microsoft Store and Xbox ports, enabling us to focus on the Mistlands update and our exciting journey through Early Access.”

“Since its launch we’ve wanted to make Valheim as accessible to as many people as possible - regardless of what platform they’re playing on - and it's so satisfying to see everyone’s hard work come to fruition with these Microsoft and Xbox announcements.” Albert Säfström, VP of Publishing at Coffee Stain said. “With Piktiv and Fishlabs supporting these efforts, and the Iron Gate team steaming ahead with our next major update this year, we’re so excited to open the gates of Valheim to PC Game Pass users soon, as well as Xbox players for the first time in 2023.”
