'Squad' Sales Surpass More Than 3 Million Copies

by Rainier on June 30, 2022 @ 8:00 a.m. PDT

Squad is an online, team-based military themed first-person-shooter where high levels of teamwork and communication are crucial to success.

Inspired by the Project Reality modification for Battlefield 2, the game will place its players in a realistic environment and encourage them to work together. Doing so tends to be an excellent way to build an immersive and visceral combat atmosphere. To those familiar with PC shooters, the best way to describe this would be as a middle ground between the Battlefield and Arma series.

Squad is a large-scale combined arms multiplayer first-person shooter emphasizing combat realism through communication, team play, and strong squad cohesion feeding into larger-scale coordination, tactics, and planning. A wide selection of realistic faction-specific weaponry and vehicles allow players to build their own loadouts that best suit their preferred tactics.

Featuring 9 factions, 22 massive maps, vehicle-based combined arms gameplay, and player-constructed bases, Squad creates a heart-thumping, visceral gaming experience with split-second decision-making in real-world scale firefights.

Offworld Industries announced that its large-scale combined arms multiplayer first-person shooter, Squad, has reached a new milestone, selling more than 3 million copies worldwide. Additionally, Squad recently hit a game record breaking concurrent 26,104 players enjoying the game at the same time and nearly 192,000 Squad players throughout the day.

In celebration of the milestone, OWI has released a new accolades trailer highlighting exciting moments from Squad’s development.

“From Kickstarter, to Early Access, to launch, and then many sizable updates, it’s been a long and exciting road for Squad. Having now sold over three million copies, we’ve hit a massive milestone for a game that began with a small team of modders,” said Offworld Industries CEO Vlad Ceraldi. “Offworld is now a team of over one hundred developers, designers, artists, project managers, and other team members, a feat we can largely attribute to the success of Squad. This isn’t the end of Squad’s journey, we’re still just getting started - we’re continuing to create new content and experiences that I can’t wait for us to share in the future.”

Adapt to the ever-changing needs of the battlefield by building fortifications and emplacements to give your squad and team the edge. Whether it’s placing HMGs and AT gun emplacements or fortifying a position with sandbags, HESCOs, and razor wire, the battlefield is yours to change, if you have the materials to do so.

Communication is a soldier's best tool in effectively engaging the enemy. To help facilitate navigating the complexity of communication on the battlefield, Squad provides a world-class in-game VoIP system that allows players to talk to other soldiers locally, in-squad, between squad leaders, or squad leaders to the team Commander. Map tools and in-world markers aid fire team leads and squad leaders to inform their squads and teams of engagement tactics.

It’s all about teamwork.
