'Splatoon 3' Coming to PAX West 2022, Playable Demo Available Now - Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 25, 2022 @ 10:40 a.m. PDT

Splatoon 3 is the next installment in the 4 vs. 4 action shooter, leaving Inkopolis behind and heading to a new region: the Splatlands.

Enter the Splatlands, a sun-scorched desert inhabited by battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings. Splatsville, the city of chaos, is the adrenaline-fueled heart of this dusty wasteland. Even in this desolate environment, Turf War reigns supreme and battles rage in new stages located in the surrounding wilds.

Dynamic new moves help these fighters dodge attacks and cover more ground, along with a new bow-shaped weapon to sling ink, and more customization options.

In Splatoon 3, online 4-v-4 Turf War battles can create heated matches across a mix of new and returning stages, where teams of four face off to cover the most ground in their ink. Newly uncovered footage provides insight on one of these new stages, Eeltail Alley, along with a look at the stringer – a new bow-shaped weapon type that enables you to sling ink sideways and vertically.

In addition to frantic 4-v-4 multiplayer matches, Splatoon 3 also features a fresh single-player campaign and the next iteration of the co-op Salmon Run mode. In the single-player story mode, you’ll join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians and discover the secrets of a mysterious place called Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze. When diving into Salmon Run, you’ll ink up with teammates** to fend off waves of dangerous Salmonid bosses, some of which are colossal in size!

The new Splatoon 3 game launches for  Nintendo Switch on Sept. 9, but you can take an early first dive into the game’s new spin on the series’ kinetic action. Prepare to start splatting now!

Ink up the Splatlands and get a tenta-lizing taste of the Splatoon 3 game’s newly updated Splatfest battles with the Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere on Aug. 27. New to the Splatoon series? No problem! Simply download the free demo today in Nintendo eShop or download it directly to your Nintendo Switch on Nintendo.com to dip your tentacles into a tutorial. Then, take a stroll around Splatsville and get ready for the Splatfest on Saturday.

You’ll choose a Splatfest team by answering the burning question – which is best: Rock, Paper or Scissors? Make your move and Super Jump into Turf War battle to ink your crew to victory. Turf War is a heated 4-v-4 team battle mode where the goal for each team is to ink the most ground within three minutes. But wait … this time there are THREE teams in Splatfests?! That’s right, Splatfests are a little different this time around.

The main event starts on Aug. 27. Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. PT, claim your turf against one team at a time. Then, during the 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. PT block, take on the new Splatfest Tricolor Turf War battles. This 4-v-2-v-2 format brings a new type of colorful chaos to Splatfests. Which team will get the upper hand? Team Rock, Team Paper or Team Scissors? Let others know by posting messages and sharing your allegiance in the Splatsville square!

You’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to participate in the Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere demo. If you’re not a current Nintendo Switch Online member, no worries – we got you covered (not just in ink)! By downloading the demo from Nintendo eShop, you can receive a free seven-day trial** for Nintendo Switch Online. After downloading the demo, you will receive an email with a Nintendo eShop code for your free trial. Even if you’ve activated a previous free trial, you’re still eligible for this trial, so everyone has a chance to get out there and get splattin’ in this Splatfest!

In the upcoming Splatoon 3 game the breathtaking rocks of the new Scorch Gorge stage rise up like chimneys. They’ll also be appearing as backdrops within the Nintendo booth at this year’s PAX West, which is being transformed into scenes inspired by the sun-scorched Splatlands from Splatoon 3.

The Nintendo Splatoon 3 booth at PAX West in Seattle on Sept. 2-5 will provide the perfect environment for in-game splatting … and real-life photo opportunities!

PAX West attendees eager to jump into the world of Splatoon 3 will also have a chance to play a demo of multiplayer Turf War battles before the full game launches. Multiple teams of four will compete to ink the most turf on the map within three minutes. Both newcomers and Splatoon series veterans are invited to give the game a try! A free Warp Pipe Pass is required to play Splatoon 3 at the Nintendo Booth, and starting today, fans can register for the chance to reserve a free Warp Pipe Pass.* Registration is now open at https://experience.nintendo.com and ends Aug. 28 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

This year’s PAX West will also be a treat for competitive players, as well as those who enjoy the thrill of watching friendly rivals battle it out. The top finishers from this summer’s Splatoon 2 Inkopolis Showdown 2022 tournament have been invited to Seattle to compete in North America’s first-ever Splatoon 3 invitational on Sept. 5 in the PAX Arena. The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Championship Cup 2022 invitational will also be held at PAX West on Sept 5. Twelve top racers from this summer’s Mario Kart North American Open July 2022 tournament will compete to decide the fastest racer. Both tournaments will be livestreamed via Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

Additionally, PAX West’s Almost Pro open tournament, taking place Sept. 2-4, will showcase the next stop on the Panda Cup featuring Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The winner of this open tournament will be invited to compete in the Panda Cup Finale in December!
