'Pokémon Scarlet' And 'Pokémon Violet' Kicks Off In-Game Event, Two Part The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC Begins This Fall - Trailer

by Rainier on Feb. 27, 2023 @ 10:35 a.m. PST

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet take an evolutionary step in the Pokémon series, letting trainers can explore an open world where various towns with no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness.

Pokémon can be seen everywhere in this wide-open world—in the skies, in the sea, and on the streets.

As one of the main characters, Trainers will jump into the world of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet to begin their adventure, where they will have a different outfit depending on which game they are playing.

Trainers will then choose either Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokémon, Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokémon, or Quaxly, the Duckling Pokémon to be their first partner Pokémon before setting off on their journey.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet also offer expanded multiplayer modes, allowing up to four players to travel across the land together. Along with series staples, such as trading and battling Pokémon, players can also explore the various locations of the region together with other players. Whether trading, battling, joining Tera Raid Battles or just having a relaxing picnic, players are sure to make some memorable experiences with their friends and family in local wireless or online multiplayer.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Downloadable Content

Global sales of the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games for the Nintendo Switch family of systems surpassed 10 million combined units in the first three days following their worldwide launch on November 18, 2022—the highest global sales for any software on any Nintendo platform in that same timeframe.

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will take fans deeper into the world of Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet with two different adventures—Part 1: Hidden Treasure of Area Zero: The Teal Mask, launching in fall 2023, and Part 2: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero: The Indigo Disk, releasing at a later date.

“We are so grateful that millions of Trainers around the world have chosen to explore the expansive Paldea region,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company. “In The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, fans will take a trip to the land of Kitakami, where they will meet new Pokémon and interesting characters. I sincerely hope that Trainers who embark on this new journey find the same excitement and joy they experienced when they encountered their first Pokémon.”

Players can use their current save data from Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet to continue their adventure in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. In this new downloadable content, players will be leaving the Paldea region, the setting of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. In Part 1: The Teal Mask, a school trip will take players to the land of Kitakami, where they will be joining an outdoors study program held jointly between their academy and another school. In Part 2: The Indigo Disk, players will be traveling to Blueberry Academy, a sister school of their own academy, as exchange students. While this tale is split into two parts, they link together to tell a connected story.

In Part 1: The Teal Mask, players will be chosen to take part in a school trip that is held each year in collaboration with another school. They’ll be taken to the land of Kitakami, where a great mountain towers over the land and the people live at its base. It is a place of tranquil natural expanses, featuring rice paddies and apple orchards. The trip seems to coincide with a festival regularly held in the village in Kitakami during this season, so the village is bustling with various street vendors and stalls. Players will meet new friends and Pokémon as they unravel the mysteries behind the folktales that have been passed down in this land.

In Part 1: The Teal Mask and Part 2: The Indigo Disk, players will be able to encounter over 230 familiar Pokémon that have been found living in other regions but had not appeared in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. This includes Pokémon that players will be able to bring to their games via Pokémon HOME or those received in trades. Players will also encounter new Legendary Pokémon—Ogerpon in Part 1: The Teal Mask and Terapagos in Part 2: The Indigo Disk. In Part 1: The Teal Mask, three Pokémon named Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti also appear. They are beloved by the people of the village as heroes that protected the land of Kitakami in the past, and stone statues were made in their likeness to express the people’s gratitude.

Players who purchase The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero by Tuesday, October 31, 2023, will be given a serial code for a special gift: a Hisuian Zoroark with three special features. This Hisuian Zoroark knows the move Happy Hour, which it cannot learn through normal gameplay, along with Tera Blast, Bitter Malice, and Nasty Plot. It has the Charismatic Mark, and it has Dark as its Tera Type. The serial code will be valid until Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Fans can purchase The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero now on Nintendo eShop.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Tera Raid Battle Event

From Monday, February 27, to Sunday, March 12, 2023, a Tera Raid Battle event will take place in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Trainers will encounter two newly discovered Paradox Pokémon: Walking Wake in Pokémon Scarlet and Iron Leaves in Pokémon Violet.

In this Tera Raid Battle event, you will be able to challenge Walking Wake in Pokémon Scarlet and Iron Leaves in Pokémon Violet.

Notes: Only one Walking Wake and one Iron Leaves can be caught per save file from this event.

After catching Walking Wake or Iron Leaves, you will still be able to participate in the Tera Raid Battle event during the event period to get other rewards.

Walking Wake and Iron Leaves will appear again in future events.

You can battle version-exclusive Pokémon by using the internet or local connectivity to join another Trainer’s Tera Raid Battle.

A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) is required to participate in Tera Raid Battles with other Trainers online.

To encounter Pokémon featured in Tera Raid Battle events, you need to have downloaded the latest software update and Poké Portal News. You do not need a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership to receive the latest Poké Portal News.

Poké Portal News will automatically download if your Nintendo Switch system is connected to the internet. You can also download the latest Poké Portal news by selecting Poké Portal from the X menu, then Mystery Gift, then Check Poké Portal News.

Pokémon Concierge

Growing its diverse lineup of entertainment offerings, The Pokémon Company, in partnership with Netflix, unveiled a brand-new series titled Pokémon Concierge, which expands the Pokémon world with a new storyline and innovative stop-motion animation. Developed in collaboration with dwarf studios, Pokémon Concierge will be set at the Pokémon Resort and follows the story of a concierge named Haru and the many Pokémon that visit as guests.

Pokémon GO Connects to Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet

Pokémon GO Trainers can now connect to Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet on Nintendo Switch by sending postcards from Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet. Sending postcards will create opportunities to encounter Roaming Form Gimmighoul and collect Gimmighoul Coins. Additionally:
  • Sending postcards will affect Trainers’ Paldean adventures—in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, the patterns of Vivillon that live in the Paldea region will change based on the location listed on the Postcard.
  • Trainers can also use the Coin Bag in Pokémon GO. When Trainers use the Coin Bag, Roaming Form Gimmighoul will appear nearby.
  • Avatars, stickers and exclusive items featuring Roaming Form Gimmighoul will be available at PokéStops and in the in-game shop.

After their release, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be able to link with Pokémon HOME, a service that allows Trainers to keep their entire Pokémon collection in one place. By linking these games with Pokémon HOME, Trainers will be able to have Pokémon from other regions adventure alongside them in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch for $59.99.
