'Death From Above' Is A Drone Warfare Game Set In Ukraine, Kickstarter Campaign Launched, Early Access Proceeds Partly Go To Charity - Trailer

by Rainier on March 10, 2023 @ 12:50 a.m. PST

Death From Above is an arcade-style drone simulator game set during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In Death From Above you will play as a Ukrainian military drone operator fighting the occupation, salvaging valuable equipment, and restoring communication lines disrupted by the conflict.

Hidden behind enemy lines, you command a 'super drone' to seek and destroy tanks, take back communication towers, recover stolen goods, and fight for a better tomorrow.

While the game is set against a real-life backdrop of the severe and tragic events still unfolding in the real world, Death From Above is still designed as an enjoyable, satirical experience for players.

Slava Ukraini!

The Kickstarter campaign will run until April 9, 2023, offering backers exclusive access to the game's beta versions and other exciting rewards, and, if successfully reacking the $26,486 goal, will help the development team to collaborate with Ukrainian artists to enhance the game’s visuals, audio, and storyline. Additionally, further funding will help the game grow with features and content.

"We want to help the people affected by the Russian occupation, so we will be supporting Ukrainian artists by featuring their work in our game," said Hendrik Lesser, Game Director.

"When Death from Above is released in Early Access on Steam, 30% of the net revenues from game sales will be sent to two Ukrainian charities: Come Back Alive and Army of Drones. Once we break even, that donation will increase to 70% of all future net game revenues, with the final 30% going towards improving the production further."

"Come Back Alive" is the biggest Foundation providing competent assistance to Ukrainian defenders since 2014. Their goal is to preserve the lives of Ukrainian defenders in the face of an invading force by purchasing the necessary equipment and delivering it to the frontlines so that they can save civil lives. The foundation supplies thermal imaging devices, generators, radios, GPS navigators, UAVs, cars, body armor, and protective, communication, and intelligence equipment. The foundation’s instructors train the military in controlling drones, mine safety, and tactical medicine.

“Army of Drones” is a joint comprehensive project of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Communications Service, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which organizes and conducts procurement of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), supply them to the military, train operators to fly drones, and support Ukrainian startups and manufacturers in the field of UAVs to develop the military-tech sector in Ukraine

Key Features:

  • Interplay between operator and Drone: After you deplete your drone's ammo, you must return to your operator's position to rearm. Risk trekking deeper into enemy territory for a quick and easy top-up, or stay at a distance to assure your survival!
  • Clear the Ukrainian steppe of Russian invaders!: Seek out, bomb, and destroy HQ camps, vehicles, and military depots; stay focused, and switch between top-down and third-person perspectives to maximise your impact!
  • Take over control towers to restore communication lines!: Patrol the area, neutralize defenses, then bring in the operator for a successful mission!
  • Recover stolen washing mac-*ahem*...Precious hardware!: The invaders are always on the lookout for any hardware they can grab. Keep on the lookout for any stragglers and recover this precious resource!

Death From Above will be released on PC in Steam Early Access in April 2023 with the full launch expected in Q4 2023.
