'New Star GP' Is A Retro Racing Game Coming To PC And Consoles, Early Access Soon - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on June 22, 2023 @ 3:40 p.m. PDT

New Star GP is a fast and exciting arcade motorsport game with stunning retro visuals.

Play Career Mode starting in the 80’s and work your way through decades of racing while upgrading your car and your support team, or chase high scores in Championship Mode on your own or in split-screen with up to three friends.

New Star GP is the arcade racing game where every decision counts - on and off the track! You take control of your own motorsport team, guide your team’s technological development, plan your race strategy, take the wheel, and drive to victory! With a simple but deep gameplay experience and appealing retro visuals, New Star GP puts you in the driving seat for every twist and turn as you manage and race your team through decades of racing, from the 1980s all the way to the present day!

Beautifully rendered retro looks and a driving retro soundtrack that bring back fond memories of the iconic racing games of the 1990s.

A pick-up-and-play arcade driving experience that has more depth than you think. While anyone can take the wheel and have success, those who want to truly master the game will want to make use of tyre choice and wear, component reliability, slipstreaming opponents, fuel load, and even pit strategy. Anything can happen in races, from catastrophic component failures and dynamic weather changes, to tyre blowouts and multi-car pileups.

New Star GP is the biggest and most ambitious game that New Star Games has ever worked on, so it’s a great fit for Steam Early Access. With an excellent reputation for listening and working with the community on their titles, New Star Games is looking forward to getting player input on refining the current experience and also on adding new content and features.

When the game hits Early Access it will have races set in both the 80’s and the 90’s. That equates to 56 individual race events taking in iconic racing venues like Brisbane, Quebec and Tokyo with plans to evolve Career Mode to include future decades of racing along with new cars, locations, tracks and rivals. Championship Mode will have a selection of different championships to play in either single player or with up to three other players, with plans to add more content while in Early Access.

Simon Read, founder of New Star Games said “New Star GP is about bringing the excitement of 90s arcade racing bang up-to-date with the deeper gameplay elements that the modern gamer expects. I believe we have succeeded in this aim because the team here has created a thing of pure joy!”

Compete in GPs, Elimination Races, Time Trials, Checkpoint Races, and one-on-one Rival Races. In between events, choose how to upgrade your car, or which staff perks to equip: from sponsored car components to faster pit stops. When you’ve won a season, progress to the next decade of racing and face a new set of opponents and challenges in a brand new car!

Race a myriad of events across the decades at some of the most iconic racing locations around the world. Earn rewards for setting personal bests!

Enjoy the game with your friends with a fun split-screen social multiplayer mode. Play with 2, 3, or 4 players, choose your car, driver, handicap, and play mode, and any of the tracks to compete on. Points carry over from event to event, so it’s as easy to play one race as it is to play a whole season of racing together.

New Star GP is in development for PC (Steam) and consoles, scheduled for 2023.
