'Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak' Free Bonus Update Tomorrow, All Content Bundled In August - Trailer

by Rainier on June 7, 2023 @ 10:10 a.m. PDT

In Monster Hunter Rise, players rise above the world, using special creatures to scale cliffs and vault high above the magnificent terrain around them.

Monster Hunter Rise evolves the Monster Hunter series by providing hunters with an inventive set of new tools to track down and defeat threatening monsters. Players can tackle these challenges solo, or with up to three other hunters in local or cooperative online play.

Monster Hunter Rise is an action RPG that will transport players to the colorful Kamura Village, an all-new serene mountain locale that attracts visitors with its unique culture and innovative hunting technologies. After hunters equip their armor and select from one of the various weapon types, all-new hunting grounds await, including the ancient Shrine Ruins and more. Featuring maps with no loading times, the continuous gameplay ensures that players will remain on their quests as soon as the hunt begins without transitions between areas.

The core gameplay experience in Monster Hunter Rise will feel familiar to previous Monster Hunter entries, but it also introduces several new and exciting mechanics for hunters to master. For the first time ever, wire-based grappling actions can be performed by using a “Wirebug” while standing or in mid-air, adding an all-new level of aerial maneuverability to hunting strategies and attacks. As players defeat monsters and progress through the game, items from fallen foes can be used to craft unique weapons and armor that will increase their chances of future success and survival.

During today’s Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Developer Roundtable, Monster Hunter series Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Sunbreak Director Yoshitake Suzuki provided a closer look at the Free Bonus Update arriving on June 8, 2023 for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, and were joined by Monster Hunter Rise director Yasunori Ichinose who took a fond look back at the last two years of development for Rise

The Free Bonus Update features the final monster coming to the massive expansion, Primordial Malzeno, a number of changes to armor augmentations and decorations, and challenging new Event Quests releasing through July 27.

It was also announced that all the content from Title Updates 4, 5, and the Free Bonus Update will arrive as a single package for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, PS4, and PS5 on August 24, 2023.

The story of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak was originally intended to end with the climactic clash of Kamura’s forces against Amatsu in Free Title Update 5, however, the Free Bonus Update concludes the age-old relationship between the Elder Dragon Malzeno and the Kingdom. Starting at Master Rank level 10, Primordial Malzeno brings new ferocious attacks and moves for hunters to contend with and offers victorious hunters parts for a unique new armor set and weapons. Following the launch of the Free Bonus Update on June 8, Event Quests boasting greater challenges and even more exciting rewards will continue to release until July 27. While no new Paid DLC will release with the Free Bonus Update, the existing DLC is being bundled in new themed sets at affordable prices.

The remainder of the final Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Digital Event opened up to a developer roundtable discussing almost two years of Monster Hunter Rise and the Sunbreak expansion. In it, Tsujimoto and Suzuki were joined by Rise Director Yasunori Ichinose to discuss a wide range of topics, including how player feedback impacted the development team, their favorite characters and a thank you to the fans who have inspired them to constantly strive for new and exciting Monster Hunter experiences. With Monster Hunter celebrating its 20th anniversary next year, the trio looks forward to the series’ bright future.
