Play as Kyle Crane, a legendary hero who breaks free after years of brutal experiments. Now, he must realize there’s more at stake than just revenge.
Dying Light: The Beast is a thrilling 18+ hours standalone zombie adventure set in the post-apocalyptic Castor Woods, a once-popular tourist destination. After 13 years of enduring experiments, you escape and hunt down your captors to seek retribution, only to discover there’s far more at stake.
While the region is not as populated as it once was, there are still people and factions here, as well as plenty of horrors. Some will ask for your help, others will want to kill you. And that’s not to mention the mysterious creature that’s turned the woods into its personal hunting grounds.
Techland kicks off the Castor Woods campaign for Dying Light: The Beast - and its star is none other than Bober the Beaver.
Wondering what a cute and friendly beaver is doing in the promotion of a survival horror game? Let us explain.
Tymon Smektała, Franchise Director: “While working on the world of Dying Light: The Beast, it was important to us that it be filled with hidden stories and small, interesting details that make the world feel more lively and immersive. At one point, our artists pitched the idea of including beavers in the worldbuilding – and we loved it. What started as a small environmental detail quickly evolved into something much bigger...”
Katarzyna Tarnacka-Polito, Art Director: “Part of the Castor Woods locations are flooded. When we started asking ourselves why, our brainstorms led us to beavers. We created a backstory especially for this purpose: the Castor Woods valley has always been home to a large beaver population. Without humans around to keep them in check, the beavers reshaped the flow of rivers, and the valley was flooded as a result. From there, we just kept expanding the idea… ”
Over time, beavers became a symbol of the region and a kind of mascot for the natural reserve. Developers loved the idea so much that they placed beavers in many parts of the game - statues, posters, logos of local companies, even the coat of arms. To us, they’ve become the spirit of Castor Woods.
And now, below is a message from Bober himself. Help him spread the word about Castor Woods being the go-to vacation spot this summer - and don’t miss his official trailer, where he invites you to visit the woods… if you dare.
