Set in post-apocalyptic 2026 when a devastating global tectonic disturbance (Earth Rage) destroys and changes much of the world, Southwestern Tokyo split off into the ocean and became an island covered in fog. A giant spire-like structure pierced through the center of the island creating the twisted battleground known as The Tower of Barbs. Daring players will explore and ascend this mysterious tower, all the while fighting off ghastly enemies and horrific bosses, aided by the Grim Reaper, Uncle Death.
Players start with little more than their undergarments and must forage for powerful weapons and armor to do battle with the over-the-top ultraviolent future that waits.
Let It Die also features deep, multilayered asynchronous multiplayer in the form of "death data," where other players' dead bodies will reanimate into a "Hater", a brutal AI opponent, who will roam other player's games and use every tactic and weapon on hand to stop players in their tracks. If they manage to eliminate a Hater, players are able to loot the Hater for rare items to aid in their ascent up The Tower of Barbs. Players will eventually meet Tetsuo, an unsettling robotic NPC, who gives players the chance to join a team and perform raids on enemy bases to steal much needed resources.
GOE confirmed that the original Let It Die (2016) will sunset its online services later this year.
Servers will shut down on August 31, and an offline version will be available in Fall 2026.
After years of tower climbs, brutal boss fights, and millions of deaths (and rebirths), the original LET IT DIE transitions to an offline version. What, did you think we were just going to let it die?
- What Changes in Offline: Moving to an offline version ensures players can continue playing LET IT DIE permanently with no risk of losing access due to server shutdowns.
- Key differences in the version include:
- No server maintenance or online dependency
- No microtransactions
- Death Metal will be discontinued
- Beginning today, players can participate in a Death Metal event to use the currency before the Offline version. The “Continue” system will remain in Offline, but it will require Kill Coins instead of Death Metal.
- Core gameplay systems remain intact and are now fully supported by Kill Coins.
- To celebrate this new era of LET IT DIE, new Armors will be available for your favorite characters, including Momoko Yamada, Kiwako Seto, and Meijin.
- You can review additional changes here.
- How to Purchase LET IT DIE Offline and Data Transfers:
- Existing Players
- When LET IT DIE transitions to Offline, the game will remain available on both the PlayStation Store and Steam.
- For existing players, the offline version will be available for purchase as an additional DLC, the “Offline Patch,” on both platforms.
- Save transfers are supported only within the same platform: PlayStation save data cannot be transferred to Steam, and Steam save data cannot be transferred to PlayStation.
- However, PlayStation 4 save data can be transferred to PlayStation 5 using a PlayStation ID.
- New Players
- LET IT DIE Offline will be available for purchase on PlayStation Store and Steam in Fall 2026.
- Sunset Schedule: Every climb has an end (or a new beginning). This one just comes with patch notes.
- July 30: Death Metals will no longer be usable.
- August 30: LET IT DIE will no longer be downloadable.
- August 31: Server shutdown.
Additionally, Let It Die also has an all-star lineup of voice actors, including Mark Hamill, who lends his voice as the game's narrator, as well as Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars), Verne Troyer (Austin Powers), Steve Blum (Star Wars Rebels) Mark Rolston (Aliens), Laraine Newman (Saturday Night Live) and Tracy Lords (Blade).
Let It Die is available for download from the PlayStation Store and PC (Steam).
