Mortal Shell II expands upon the core of the original with unrestricted, adrenaline-charged combat, deeper weapon design with extensive upgrade options, and an emphasis on free exploration within a compact and immersive interconnected open world.
Mortal Shell II is a dark power fantasy. This standalone sequel action-RPG offers an immersive, interconnected open world, expansive yet deliberately compact, designed to unfold its twisted landscapes and hidden structures while respecting the player's time.
In this single-player title, your journey will be marked by brutal, high-intensity combat, both melee and ranged, against relentless enemies that demand your full attention and mastery.
You won’t need to have played the first Mortal Shell to dive into the sequel. However, returning players will find echoes of familiar faces, some changed, some forgotten, alongside entirely new Shells to discover and inhabit.
Like with the first game, in Mortal Shell II the dormant forms of forgotten warriors are scattered throughout the game’s ravaged world. Once discovered, each Shell can be awakened and possessed, unlocking their innate strengths and unique abilities. Evolve your own style of combat by harnessing these diverse powers, and unravel their secrets through the discovery of lost memories.
Mortal Shell II’s compact open world connects over winding footpaths guarded by the desperate and fanatical. Those who wander are rewarded with new story elements, Shells, powerful and strange weaponry, upgrades, curiosities, and more.
Playstack and Cold Symmetry have showcased Mortal Shell II in never-before-seen detail with its first Gameplay Reveal.
The 12-minute in-game video captures three of the game’s titular Shells as they each embark on a uniquely treacherous path through Mortal Shell II’s immersive open-world.
Unlike with the game’s predecessor, which was largely contained within the cold marshy patches of Fallgrim, Mortal Shell II breaks free across a compact open-world; dark and exotic and densely populated by those who fester within its twisted, interconnected landforms.
The above Gameplay Reveal depicts three playable Shells (Tiel, The Acolyte; Eredrim, The Venerable; and Proxima, The Broodseeker), who each carve a different trail through the game’s world, demonstrating their own eclectic approach to combat, as well as the local cultures of monstrosities who zealously guard each path.
The gameplay video marks the first official showcase from the Mortal Shell II team since opening the show at Summer Game Fest 2025 with a pulverising world-premiere trailer watched by more than 15 million people worldwide. It also kick-starts a major global marketing campaign that runs through the summer until the game’s worldwide release on PS5, Xbox and PC (Steam) later in the year.
Publisher Playstack also announces Mortal Shell II: REVERED EDITION, a special collector’s physical version for PlayStation 5 only, featuring a comprehensive Artbook, Exclusive Steelbook, Limited Edition Fine Art Prints, all presented in a special Collector’s Box.
Pre-orders for Mortal Shell II: REVERED EDITION are now live in participating retailers, along with pre-orders for the standard physical edition. Those who pre-order will receive two exclusive Harbinger skins (Obsidian Harbinger and Skeletal Harbinger).
Mortal Shell II: REVERED EDITION will release on PS5 later in 2026, with the launch coinciding with Mortal Shell II’s worldwide digital release across PS5, Xbox and PC (Steam).
