Thirty years have passed since the vicious storm that concluded the first chapter of humankind's survival story in Frostpunk, Earth is still overwhelmed by the neverending frost and harsh, icy climate. But the apocalyptic world has moved on. After the age of coal, conquering Frostland for the oil extraction industry is expected to be the new salvation of what’s left of humanity.
The City, settled around the Generator and its life-giving warmth, grew and progressed as the years ticked on. Years of whiteouts have changed the world, giving it a clean slate with which to write a new post-apocalyptic part of its story. Despite the noose of oppression again starting to tighten on a society that is struggling for life-preserving supplies—and increasingly bothered by inner squabbles after recent events—the world is once again facing an era of possibly prolific expansion.
Most notably, however, people changed. And once they feel like they’ve tamed the frost, and the bonding survival instinct has faded, their human nature will come into play, driven by ambition that could spiral The City into the fall.
However, change does not come easily, and not everyone in this new multi-layered society will welcome this new direction.
A proud day has come for all citizens of New London. 11 million Captains and Stewards have combined their efforts across Frostpunk and its sequel to steer humanity from the brink of extinction, and today, 11 bit studios is ready to unveil the near future for its frozen franchise.
During the Frostpunk Franchise Fest 11 bit studios revealed Breach of Trust - the second DLC for Frostpunk 2, scheduled for release on June 23rd.
This fully-realized scenario, built on fresh mechanics and new challenges, takes players through a trial by fire as they struggle to overcome a crisis in New Edinburgh. Settled near a volcano destabilized by the reckless use of geothermal energy to power its Generator, the city faces grave danger. With the ground trembling beneath them, players take the helm as First Citizen; held accountable through periodic Votes of Trust that measure their approval rating.
But as the inferno looms, will you foster trust or unleash destruction? For from the same fire that destroys, unity can be born.
Breach of Trust is now entering its closed playtest phase, with sign-ups open via Steam.
The Frostpunk story began in 2018 with the bestselling original game that introduced players to survival city-building. That experience will soon be revisited in Frostpunk 1886 - a definitive version of the original with substantial new content, detailed further in upcoming developer diaries on Steam. For players who prefer to command their city on the go, the original Frostpunk is also coming to Nintendo Switch.
Beyond gaming, Frostpunk is expanding into new territory with a comic book set in the universe, created in partnership with Rocketship Entertainment and brought to life by writer Justin Jordan and illustrator Ryan Benjamin.
All of this is accompanied by a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined this harsh journey through frost and morality. To celebrate 11 million players, 11 bit studios is releasing commemorative merchandise, and a major Steam sale on all Frostpunk franchise titles and DLCs is now underway.
Today, leave your post and celebrate, Citizens - the Administration is already planning a more distant future with more snow, more content, and... more games?
Frostpunk 2 is available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG) and PC Game Pass.
