'Lunar Strike' Reveals Story Details And Shows Off Gameplay, Kicks Off First Steam Playtest - Trailer

by Rainier on May 29, 2026 @ 10:55 a.m. PDT

Set in and around the location of humanity's last remaining Moon colony, Lunar Strike is a sci-fi exploration game that sees players set out to preserve its culture while making game-altering decisions that unravel a new future for us all.

Lunar Strike is a single-player sci-fi narrative adventure and exploration game set on the hostile environment of the Moon’s south pole in the year 2119.

Lunar Strike blends speculative fiction with a game world grounded in hard science - including orbital dynamics and applied astrophysics - and ethical decision making, as players try to archive humanity’s scientific and cultural legacy before it’s lost forever.

You play as a junior archivist sent to document humanity’s final lunar colony. Your mission begins with scanning and preserving scientific, cultural, and personal records. But when sabotage destabilizes the colony, the task shifts to survival under real lunar conditions: managing oxygen, power, and time while deciding what knowledge and memory must endure. Every choice shapes the archive — and the outcome of the colony itself.

Developed with ethical questions of legacy, memory, and responsibility at its heart, players will face increasingly difficult challenges to build and preserve the archive, with multiple outcomes driven by their decisions and values.

Check out a brand new story and gameplay trailer for Lunar Strike, offering players a fresh look at life inside humanity's final inhabited lunar colony.

Alongside the new trailer reveal, Cognition has also confirmed that a playtest for Lunar Strike is now available. Taking place during the early stages of the adventure the playtest is a snapshot of the pre-alpha build of the game, introducing players to some of the main characters and the last lunar colony, New Arcadia. As they explore their surroundings, they’ll experience the game's grounded vision of lunar life, including exploration, scanning systems, environmental storytelling, and its distinctive approach to "hard" science fiction.
