InSand: Raiders of Sophie, players are thrust into the desolate deserts of the fallen planet Sophie, and they embark on a quest to uncover resources and treasures. To navigate this harsh terrain efficiently, players are provided with the ability to design and modify their own Trampler, a walking mech capable of traversing the islands that were once submerged beneath a vast sea. Your Trampler is your base.
The Trampler serves as the player's main base, both as a means of exploration and loot storage. Players are able to customize their tramplers, from interior design, to upgrading its power, armor, and weapons. Team up with other players to pool your resources together to create the ultimate movable base in a large open world.
In an alternate history version of 1910, humanity had made significant advancements in space exploration thanks to the discovery of new energy sources. The Austro-Hungarian Empire led the way in conquering other planets, but a mysterious ecological disaster struck planet Sophie, forcing its settlers to hastily leave behind a once-resource-rich world. Motivated by desperation, the bravest and most impoverished individuals from the empire now journey to planet Sophie, seeking to test their fate, uncover hidden riches in the barren wastelands, and profoundly change their lives.
Publisher tinyBuild and indie developers Hologryph and TowerHaus announced that Sand: Raiders of Sophie has been delayed to June 22, 2026 and will be launching into Steam Early Access, instead of 1.0.
Hey folks,
It’s been a crazy few days, with Sand featuring at Summer Games Fest and the Server Slam exceeding our expectations on the number of players. We’ve welcomed tens of thousands of new smugglers into the world of SAND and it’s shown us just how special what we have on our hands really is.
The community has also been extremely vocal and critical. Both are great things. We’ve spent many hours on our chats and in forums digesting the feedback and evaluating ideas on features, balancing, and the general game direction. It’s clear we need to more closely involve the community in our development, and so we’ve decided to release into Early Access to work towards the best possible version of Sand: Raiders Of Sophie
What’s also clear is we can’t reliably serve enough players with our current server structure. We’ve already solved many critical issues that were impossible to diagnose without an influx of players, and there are a few more that need to be addressed. While there is a chance that within the next 48h we will fix most of the issues, it’s not a risk we want to take. The game and all of you deserves a proper launch.
So, here’s the plan:
We will dive deeper into all logs collected over the Server Slam. We will optimize as much as we can server side, and also address the bugs players have witnessed client (game)-side all based on player feedback.
We will launch the game on June 22 as an Early Access release, with another Server Slam on June 15 (Monday, a week before launch) to make sure things are smooth.
On June 22nd, we’ll launch with a comprehensive roadmap, built around your feedback and suggestions from the Server Slams, which we’ll continue to update and iterate on as we develop SAND alongside all of you.
The community is the core of this game, and seeing the passion and hundreds of hours put in from players during playtests, we believe it’s important to listen to you. You said it loud and clear: fix the issues, and listen to us. Roger. Let’s launch the best game possible, and continue developing it together.
We will see you in just a few days on Sophie!
The characters originate from Galicia, a region within the Austro-Hungarian Empire predominantly inhabited by Ukrainians and Poles. During the early stages of colonization, the Kaiser promised the Galicians a significant portion of the planet Sophie, enticing them to volunteer as the primary labor force for constructing the cities that would eventually belong to them. Despite the ecological disaster, the allure of owning their own space territories proves difficult to abandon. The most resilient and desperate Galicians, who have little to lose, resort to semi-legal means of reaching the planet, driven by their determination to rectify historical injustices and claim what they believe is rightfully theirs.
Key Features:
- FORGE YOUR FORTRESS, DOMINATE THE DESERT: Design your Tramplers from scratch in the Trampler Editor before deploying into the world. Build your very own modular impenetrable fortress that can weather the deadliest of assaults. The only limits are your creativity and will to succeed!
- SQUAD UP OR GO SOLO: Get your crew together, or go solo as you embark on expeditions. Deploy into the world, chart your course, and scavenge cities, ruins, shipwrecks and other remnants of a fallen world for loot.
- MULTIPLAYER DIESELPUNK ACTION: Every city looted, shipwreck scoured or ill-timed encounter with fellow scavengers endured might just be your last, so keep your wits about you. Survive encounters with mysterious supernatural forces, fight or talk your way out of confrontations with other players, successfully make it to your extraction point, and escape to the safety of the orbital station with your loot, life and Trampler intact.
- BRAVE THE DUNES: Test your builds and scavenge lower-tier items at your own pace in Voyage Mode, or raise the stakes with a shrinking map and escalating dangers in Storm Dive Mode for higher-tier loot and greater rewards.
- PERSISTENT PROGRESS: Unlike traditional survival games, SAND eliminates the dreaded offline raid; your Trampler extracts with you at the end of each session. Build, fight, extract, repeat - without losing everything while you sleep.
