About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

9. 'Dead Space Remake' (PS5/XSX/PC)

by Judy on Jan. 18, 2022 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

The sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up to offer a deeper and more immersive experience.

Redmond Carolipio: One of the scariest games I've ever played didn't have anything to do with zombies or spirits. It was set in space. Dead Space's fusion of action, gore and the pure, tense terror that evoked movies like "Alien" (another one of my favorites) seared itself into my gaming soul years ago, and this new generation of players needs to experience a trip to the Ishimura in next-gen glory. I'm up for wiping out some Necromorphs.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: Dead Space was probably the most successful attempt at making a Resident Evil 4 follow-up. Blending Event Horizon-style horror with limb-chopping shooting, there really isn't another game like it on the market. After a long hiatus following the awkward Dead Space 3, it looks like the series is going back to its roots. Revisiting the Ishimura with gussied-up graphics and polished gameplay is all any Dead Space fan could really hope for, and the Dead Space Remake looks to deliver.

Jared Hall: Get your heart medication and your blood thinners because 2022 plans to dish out a cardiac arrest with a remake of one of the most terrifying games ever released, Dead Space. The game features all of the essential elements of a sci-fi horror, and we can now guide Isaac through a fun house of space monsters that are lurking in the darkness and waiting to dismember us with even more advanced limb-severing technology. Whether you missed out on the original or are a die-hard fan, the Dead Space Remake is certain to please.
