Icarus takes a session-based approach to survival games. Players take limited-time drops onto a broken planet in search of rare exotic matter, which fuels advanced tech and player progression in the game’s gritty sci-fi universe. While navigating each prospect's unique challenges, players must collect meta-resources to permanently progress, explore the damaged planet, gather resources, craft tools and machinery, build shelter, hunt wildlife, extract the exotic matter and return to their dropship in time.

Introducing a new game mode - OutPosts

Our community urged us to create a game mode that allowed them the freedom to collect resources, craft and build on Icarus without the pressure of time. So we did just that.

Outposts are a 1km x 1km plot of land where you can do just about everything you normally would in our original game mode but without the threat of storms and enemy AI. You can zen out, test your architecture and crafting skills, and invite your friends to come and play with you.

Currently Outposts are still in development, and we cannot wait to show you what they're all about!

Regarding Icarus shifting away from a free-to-play title to a premium purchase

We gave ourselves time to carefully consider the pricing model for Icarus. Our priority has always been to ensure a sustainable game of AAA quality for our players to enjoy across the years to come. Making Icarus available for purchase will allow us to confidently make regular in-game updates and develop our future DLC Chapters
