THQ Inc. today announced that it has entered into a two-property, multi-year publishing agreement with world-renowned PC development studio Relic Entertainment Inc. Creators of critically acclaimed real-time strategy (RTS) titles Homeworld and Impossible Creatures, Relic is regarded as a leader in the RTS genre. Homeworld won PC Gamer magazine's "Game of the Year" honor in 1999 and has franchise sales of more than 1.3 million units worldwide since its release. The first of the two projects included in the agreement is currently in development at Relic and scheduled to release in the second half of 2004. More details on this project will be released later this year.

Activision, Inc. and Raven Software are giving gamers and Marvel fans the world over the chance to build their X-Men dream team with the announcement of X-Men: Legends for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system, Xbox video game system from Microsoft and Nintendo GameCube. In this real-time RPG, players get the chance to assemble, train and lead their own X-Men fighting force in a battle against some of the deadliest foes in the Marvel Universe including the Morlocks, the Brotherhood of Mutants and robotic Sentinels. To be successful, players will have to draw on the powers of a diverse pool of X-Men and use teamwork to unleash the full power of their squad. X-Men: Legends is expected to ship in 2004 and has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Entertainment software publisher NovaLogic Ltd. today announced that they are teaming up with Jolt.co.uk to launch the Official UK Devastation Death Match Demo tournament. The tournament will take place on Saturday 5th April. After Qualifying rounds the top four players from each qualifier will compete in the final with the winner and runner-up decided by their total score over two maps. Prizes include a AMD XP2500+ processor, Broadband JOLT ADSL line, BMX bike and limited edition Devastation merchandise. Servers will be open from 13.00 GMT and to participate players should join one of the servers and devastate the opposition in 15 minutes of pure mayhem.

Electronic Arts Inc. and Swedish developer Digital Illusions, C.E. (DICE) today announced a strategic investment and long-term publishing agreement for video games made by DICE studios. EA has purchased a minority interest in DICE and licensed the worldwide publishing rights for future products developed by DICE. In 2002, DICE and EA partnered to release the global blockbuster, Battlefield 1942. The critically acclaimed online multi-player game is in distribution in more than 36 countries and has shipped more than 900,000 games to date. In January 2003, EA released a Battlefield 1942 expansion pack titled Battlefield: The Road to Rome, with all new content to accompany the original game.

ATI Technologies Inc. today announced that the grand-prize winner of the upcoming ATI - VE3D Unreal Tournament 2003 Deathmatch Challenge - sponsored by ATI and VE3D.com - will receive the award-winning RADEON 9700 PRO (valued at US $399) and US $1,000 in cash.
The online tournament, beginning December 12, 2002, will pit contestants against each other in one-on-one elimination games of Unreal Tournament 2003. The sole survivor will win the grand-prize while three runners-up will each receive a RADEON 9700 PRO board, the first in the world to support Microsoft's DirectX 9.0. A Disney theme park icon, "Haunted Mansion," will make its way to the big screen in 2003. The theatrical release of "Haunted Mansion" will be supported by TDK Mediactive on most major video game platforms in time for Halloween and the all-important holiday selling season. "Pirates of the Caribbean," the namesake of one of the most popular theme park attractions, will hit theaters as a major motion picture and will debut on major video game platforms, as well. BAM! Entertainment, today expanded upon its growing next generation portfolio with the announcement of its second coming title for the Xbox from Microsoft. Chase, a vehicle based stunt game, is due for release in summer 2002 and is the first title to be approved from Microsoft’s Incubator Program, an internal support system put in place by Microsoft to ensure that the full potential of both Xbox and external developers is met.
