Eidos said earlier this month that it had received an approach on March 2nd about a possible offer at 53 pence per share, and ever since, rumors have run rampant all over the web. Ubisoft was mentioned as a contender, and earlier today, reports stated that SCi had bought Eidos. None of it is true it seems, as it has now been confirmed that Eidos has agreed to a 71 million pounds ($135 million) cash offer from a unit of U.S. private equity company Elevation Partners LP. Interestingly enough, Elevation Partners is lead by people such as U2's Bono and former EA President John Riccitiello.

GMX Media announced today that it has signed a publishing agreement with Playfirst to bring Beyond Blitzkrieg to Europe in June 2005. Beyond Blitzkrieg is a first-person, massively multiplayer online game where players choose to fight alongside and against thousands of other players on the battlefields of Western Europe.

Electronic Arts today announced revised estimates for the Company's fiscal year ending March 31, 2005. The changes are primarily the result of lower than expected sales in both North America and in Europe. "These results are clearly disappointing," said Larry Probst, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "While our new releases are performing reasonably well, they have not been able to offset a significant falloff in catalog sales."

Niko Partners today announced that the videogame market in China is experiencing rapid growth, particularly in the online games segment. According to a new report released by the company, online games revenue is forecast to reach $2.0 billion by 2009. Additionally, China had 28.8 million gamers in 2004 and Niko Partners projects that number to grow to 55.5 million gamers by 2009.

Square Enix announced today that a new concert for the Final Fantasy video game franchise will be performed in Los Angeles at Universal Amphitheatre. revealed over the weekend, SimBin and 10tacle Studios today announced another free expansion pack, the "King of Ovals". This pack adds three new fictional tracks in the style of American oval circuits to the existing selection of tracks in GTR. Oval racing in a GT car is a unique challenge, and provides the player with an interesting variation from the FIA-GT seasonal circuits. Each of the new tracks is designed to present the player with a different characteristic of oval racing, and the AI behaviour is adjusted to suit the new conditions and keep the player challenged.
