'Apex Legends' Inaugural SteelSeries Prime Cup Begins This Weekend

by Rainier on Nov. 11, 2021 @ 11:44 a.m. PST

Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends is a free to play battle royale game with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?

Gaming and esports peripherals manufacturer SteelSeries announced the inaugural SteelSeries Apex Legends Prime Cup.

Beginning this weekend, 20 teams from throughout the Americas (15 invited pro teams and 5 qualifier teams) will compete for a $10,000 prize pool.

The tournament will be live streamed on Twitch on Saturday, November 13 at 5 p.m. CT and Sunday, November 14 at 5 p.m. CT, with giveaways of SteelSeries gear, limited edition Apex Legends gear, and free Apex Legends game codes throughout the event. Additionally, highlights and updates will be featured on SteelSeries’ Instagram and Twitter pages.

The global roster of teams battling it out for glory includes:

  • Invitational Teams: SpaceStation Gaming, 100 Thieves, BenchWarmers, Complexity, Cloud9, Esports Arena, G2 Esports, Ghost Gaming, Noble, NRG, Sentinels, SignUsPlease, Team Liquid, TSM, and XSET.
  • Qualified Teams: Furia, Renegades, Senior Service, Trippin on Cables, and Vatos Locos

Pros have won more prize money with SteelSeries than with any other brand and the company continues to invest deeper in the esports and gaming ecosystems it helped to create. The SteelSeries Apex Legends Prime Cup marks the fourth exclusive SteelSeries event in a series of tournaments for the year so far. Previous SteelSeries tournaments have featured the world’s most popular esports titles, including CS: GO, Rainbow Six, and Overwatch, and seen the likes of FaZe Clan London Spitfire, Red Bull OG, and SpaceStation Gaming compete for over $30,000 in prize money.

In addition to helping to expand the esports tournament landscape in 2021, SteelSeries introduced the Prime franchise, a pro line of products dedicated to esports and designed with a single goal in mind: victory. The Prime series features a lineup of lightweight, streamlined mice and a new Arctis Prime headset that features only the best-in-class technology and innovation. Developed with input from 100+ pros, the Prime series is all performance and no extras.

The innovations don’t stop there as Apex Legends also delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.

Apex Legends is now available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
