'Pharaoh: A New Era' Gives Us A Behind The Scenes At Creating The Soundtrack, Delayed Until 2022 - Trailer

by Rainier on Dec. 2, 2021 @ 2:14 p.m. PST

Pharaoh: A New Era is a full remake of classic city builder that puts players into the role of an Egyptian ruler.

First released in 1999 by Impressions Games and published by Sierra Entertainment, plan and execute the construction and management of cities as well as settlements in ancient Egypt and oversee every aspect of life within your borders. Juggle resources and strategize the administration of your empire to ensure that citizens are fed, employed, healthy and protected.

Pharaoh: A New Era is being developed with all-new code and, like a good city builder, from the ground up (see what we did there?) from Dotemu and Triskell Interactive brings all-new 4K 2D graphics with brand new UI and improved mechanics to the game, and will include the 2000 expansion, Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile. Packing more than 100 hours of gameplay, Pharaoh features 53 missions and a full map and mission editor, making the classic an immediate must-have.

Pharaoh features two modes of play, Campaign and Free Build. In campaign mode, players focus on establishing cities during different periods of ancient Egypt, building up trade centers, grand cities, tombs and pyramids, and fabulous monuments for various ancient Egyptian leaders. Players operate in six periods of ancient Egyptian history, with the first period serving as the game’s tutorial. In later periods, players get a choice between two missions - one being a peaceful mission, the other being more military in nature.

Publisher Dotemu and developer Triskell Interactive today released a behind-the-scenes look at how Pharaoh: A New Era, a full remake of one of the most beloved city builders of all time, is recreating the game’s classic soundtrack with new arrangements using traditional instruments authentic to the game’s ancient Egyptian setting. Pharaoh: A New Era is planned for release on PC in 2022.

Musician Louis Godart, composer of Pharaoh: A New Era’s soundtrack, joins Triskell Interactive Co-Founder Théophile Noiré in a new video to explain their commitment to faithfully recreating the musical pieces fans have adored for decades while enhancing their authenticity with traditional oriental instruments.

Godart emphasizes the team’s efforts to respect Egyptian culture throughout the recording process, describing what it was like working with consultants deeply familiar with the region’s culture. Godart also details connecting with Keith Zizza, the composer behind the original Pharaoh’s 1999 release, to help ensure Pharaoh: A New Era embodies the spirit of the original soundtrack.

Pharaoh: A New Era is coming to PC in 2022.
