'Die After Sunset' Gets Steam Early Access Date, Development Roadmap - Screens

by Rainier on Jan. 31, 2022 @ 11:54 a.m. PST

Die After Sunset is a third-person roguelike shooter featuring open environments where the difference between light and shadow is particularly important.

Cartoon aesthetics, power-ups, gigantic final bosses and a plethora of playable characters will come together in a shooter in which each game will be a different adventure.

Die After Sunset is an original third-person roguelike shooter featuring open environments where the difference between light and shadow is particularly important.

In each level the player will have to get the best possible equipment among a selection of crazy artifacts. It depends on it to be able to overcome all the challenges and to unravel the mystery behind the Murkor invasion, some nice alien beings at first sight... until they are covered by the darkness.

Journalist April Blazestrong is the initial and main character on Die After Sunset; investigating the inner workings of a crashed alien ship she activates her Artificial Intelligence which, against all odds, will help her stop the Murkor invasion. Thanks to the AI, April will have the direction, technology and weapons needed to unlock the secrets of the invasion, but she must do so before the sun sets.

PQube and developer Playstark are pleased to unleash Die After Sunset into Steam's Early Access program on 11th February 2022 with a 20% off launch week

Die After Sunset dawns onto early access with:

  • Two playable characters, two very different playstyles! Play as the pistol wielding, sharp-shooting, time travelling, April! Or assume the role of Rido, a submachine gun-wielding test subject, GONE WRONG!
  • Three unique levels and bosses! The fight doesn't stop at Waikiki Beach... Battle vicious bosses on Treasure Island and Mock Town too!
  • Dozens of items and power ups... Manipulate gravity to change the tide of battles with the gravity grenade or find your own personal drone to even the score! There's dozens of items and power ups to experiment with.
  • Multiple missions to undertake and help you gain items you'll need to fight colossal bosses!
  • More to come! Multiple updates adding everything from co-op gameplay to brand new characters and levels are all planned for the coming months.

The early access release is just the start of plenty of things to come. Over the next three months Playstark and PQube will be adding new levels, characters, items, missions and constantly tweaking Die After Sunset with the help of community feedback. Update #1 (March 2022)

New Level - New Missions - New Enemy - Fixes - Item Balancing

March Kicks off with a brand new level to explore, with a terrifying new boss to fight at the end of it. You'll be armed with a couple of new missions to undertake; helping you get the best build possible before the dreaded sunset.

Update #2 (April 2022)

New Character - New Items - Fixes - Item Balancing

And then... there was three. Brand new character 'Hune' joins April and Rido to make for three playable characters to choose from! Hune's playstyle is, different, to say the least. Keep an eye out in March to learn a little more about her!

Update #3 (May 2022)

The Final Level - New Missions - New Murkor - Fixes - Item Balancing

In May, you'll go head-to-head with NegaMurk... The alien creature that is responsible for the attack on Earth. Take on the game's final boss in a brand new level that'll test your skills to the limits.

To make matters worse, a brand new Murkor-type plagues the map. Luckily, you'll have a new batch of missions to help power yourself up to help tackle this new infestation!

Luckily, April won't be facing the Murkors alone, as she will unlock playable characters to help her in her quest as she progresses through the levels. Each one of them will bring new specific skills that will offer the player different ways to face the invasion.

Playing Die After Sunset means fighting a countdown at every level, which marks the inevitable arrival of one of the Murkor leaders. The player has to manage to delay the appearance of the boss as much as possible by completing randomly generated and assigned missions in real time: Destroy Murkor nests that are about to explode, prevent these aliens from eating the museum pieces, manage to reactivate the electricity to avoid running out of light...

Coming out victorious in these missions with the best possible result will offer unique improvements to the player and the extra time needed to make it to the head of the area and advance to the next adventure a little closer to nightfall.

Key Features:

  • Battle alien forces against the clock to prevent them extinguishing the sun and thwart their invasion
  • Chaotic third-person shooter with unique light and dark mechanics
  • Rogue-lite gameplay featuring permanent upgrades and meta-progression
  • Complete all levels in one clean run, fall at any point, and it's back to the beginning!
  • Weapons, power-ups, and a plethora of playable characters to unlock
  • Procedurally generated enemies, quests and loot drops that make every run a totally different challenge
  • Battle Murkors, adorable and clumsy aliens in daylight, but vicious intergalactic beasts in the shadows
  • Countdown in every run to gigantic boss battles
  • Coming to Steam Early Access later this year with 2 single player levels
  • Free massive multiplayer update and many more arenas to come

Die After Sunset will hit PC (Steam) and consoles in 2022.
