Tekken 8 pushes the envelope for fighting games and takes full advantage of the power of the latest generation of consoles

"Fist Meets Fate” in the dramatic new storyline in Tekken 8.

The Tekken series holds the Guinness World Record for being the longest-running video game storyline, with Tekken 8 continuing the tragic saga of the Mishima and Kazama bloodlines and their world-shaking father-and-son grudge matches. This latest saga begins where the previous title left off, with a world mired deep in the devastating war between Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama. After suffering what seems to be a defeat from Kazuya, Jin faces his own fate. His mother, Jun Kazama, appears after her absence from the Tekken franchise to try and turn the tide in this blood feud.

Tekken 8 will feature exciting new gameplay focused on “Aggressive” tactics. Retaining Tekken’s unique fighting game identity, the game will provide both players and spectators with the series’ most thrilling experience yet with visceral screen-jarring attacks and environments that are both dynamic and destructible.

Nina Williams is the latest character to join the Tekken 8 roster.

Nina Williams, the silent assassin that first appeared in Tekken is known from her smooth and deadly Assassination style. She’s also armed with weapons to defeat her foes in style. For Tekken 8, her moves and techniques are also enhanced, including introducing new abilities to fit with the philosophy of “aggressiveness” in the game’s new combat system.

She has been involved in the Mishima Saga in various ways for a long time. It remains to be seen how she will be involved in the story of Tekken 8.

Nina Williams joins the other already announced characters for Tekken 8, Jin Kazama, Kazuya Mishima, Jun Kazama, Paul Phoenix, Marshall Law, King, Jack-8, and Lars Alexandersson.

In addition, executive director Harada Kastuhiro and chief director Kohei Ikeda introduce special gameplay mechanics such as New Rage system, Recovery gauge and new Heat system.

Bandai Namco also announced at the Tekken World Tour 2022 Global Finals that next year’s tournament, Tekken World Tour 2023, is coming this March as an entirely in-person Tekken 7 competitive event. The tournament will feature a global leaderboard, with results tallied from region free and in-person MASTER+, MASTER, CHALLENGER, and DOJO events held throughout the world. The top players from each event type will be awarded with points, with the highest point earners on the global leaderboard eventually advancing to the Global Finals to fight for the title Tekken World Tour 2023 Champion.

This year’s initial MASTER+, MASTER, CHALLENGER, and DOJO in-person competitions begin at EVO Japan on March 31, followed up with MIXUP in Lyon, France on April 22. For more information on event dates, locations, and signups, please visit here, and spread the word on social media with #TWT2023. 

During TEKKEN World Tour 2023, players will have several opportunities to earn points and climb the leaderboards via several types of events. These include:

DOJO Events

Beginning in mid-March, tournament organizers can enter their applications for DOJO events directly through the TEKKEN Esports Tournament Portal, starting on March 31. These events are offline, in-person competitions open to all players around the world, with the number of awarded points being scaled to according to the number of participants at the tournament.  Live streams and stream verification will now be required for all participating DOJOs. More information will be coming soon to the official Tekken World Tour website. 

MASTER+, MASTER and CHALLENGER Events

With these events, players will be able to freely participate and earn points at events all over the world. These are officially supported and the stakes are higher with more points awarded for the global leaderboard. 

Tekken 8 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
