A wise man once said, “In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.”
Become an acolyte of the Inquisition in this grim dark, party-based, story-driven cRPG. Lead investigations, uncover grand conspiracies, master tactical combat, and wage a secret war against heresy. Make tough choices as a conduit of the God-Emperor’s will.
Set against the backdrop of the Noctis Aeterna and the mystery of the Tyrant Star, players will lead a warband of diverse companions in a desperate battle against heresy and corruption, from loyal Imperial subjects, such as a veteran Guardsman from the death world of Catachan, to nefarious xenos, including a bird-like Kroot mercenary.
With intricate investigations, a turn-based combat system, and choices that carry grave consequences, Dark Heresy is an atmospheric dive into the brutality and mysticism of one of the Imperium’s most feared organizations.
The game greatly expands on the ideas introduced in Rogue Trader and features fully voiced dialogues.
Owlcat Games revealed a new detailed look at the detective system, an integral part of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. Investigating crimes and heresy is a challenging job, the occupation requiring both a very specific skillset and an iron stomach.
Every case in Dark Heresy starts with a question: what happened to the missing miners? Who killed the Canonness? But as the acolytes of the inquisition soon realize, finding the answer is never simple or straightforward — and sometimes not even desired. They have to find physical clues, interrogate witnesses and suspects, follow trails with the help of the servo-ossarium and slowly build an overview of what could have happened.
The companions contribute what they can: Epione has medical knowledge, Haymar knows everything about survival, Laarthyr can give useful insights into xenos behavior, and so on. Players then must weigh the evidence, establish what they think happened, and then decide the best course of action: do they accuse the most likely suspect, or place blame on the suspect whose downfall would be most useful for their overall goals? It all rests in The Inquisitor’s hands to decide and take responsibility, because in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy innocence means nothing.
