NBA 2K27 unveiled the latest gameplay updates that provide more balance and versatility to deliver a fundamentally more rewarding experience on both ends of the floor.

“Powered by ProPLAY, NBA 2K27 delivers a balanced game on both ends of the floor,” said Mike Wang, Gameplay Director at Visual Concepts. “Our community is ready to go any time, any place - and we want to give them the tools to feed their love of basketball. Just like NBA players find inventive ways to create space, we added new offensive mechanics and refined the defensive controls to match those moves we see in the league today.”

Gameplay Enhancements in NBA 2K27:

• Creative Offensive Weapons: Thanks to ProPLAY, NBA 2K27 captures the league's most inspired offensive moves and adds another layer of creativity to the offensive bag. For the first time, players can replicate the step-through up-and-under mastered by stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, and Luka Dončić to generate clean separation. The new Expanded Dribbling Customization suite breaks signature dribbling packages into 29 individual, decoupled movements, letting hoopers craft endless combinations into personalized attacks. The Dynamic Layup Engine adjusts movements mid-air for unique, clean finishes, and the logic-driven Dunk Meter creates more realistic outcomes all the way to the rim.
• Reworked, Physical Defense: On the defensive end of the floor, players can now choose to contest shots more aggressively or more conservatively with improved hands-up defense mechanics. Meanwhile, advanced shot coverage feedback now displays a color-coded system that illustrates the quality of a contest and the direction it came from. An expanded Defensive Cutoff system empowers skilled defenders to match the offense’s explosive combos step-for-step, and ankle breakers are now skill-based and logic-driven for the first time. A new ball collision system backs it all up, weighing both players’ ratings to determine if contact from a cutoff or steal attempt is enough to jar the ball loose, rewarding physical, well-timed defense while still giving ball handlers a chance to recover.
• Revamped Takeover System: NBA 2K27 introduces a revamped Takeover system built around the five disciplines: Shooting, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, and Rebounding. Each discipline can be activated individually and is tracked throughout the game with dedicated meters that rise and fall with in-game performance in that area, scaling across six tiers. Once a player maxes out the meter of a certain discipline, it will trigger the equipped Takeover Ability automatically.

MyTEAM Enhancements in NBA 2K27:

• Exchange Without Limits: For the first time, players can exchange any Player Card in their collection for rewards, including cards earned from Season levels and cards already used to claim a Collection Reward (Free Agent cards excluded). This ensures that every single card a player earns, pulls, or unlocks is a meaningful asset toward building an unstoppable lineup.
• All-New Player XP: A dedicated Player XP system that allows every single Player Card to level up through play, with stronger on-court performances accelerating progression even further. Rewards include attribute boosts, starting a game with Takeover already active, a permanent additional turbo meter, and an extra Badge Slot, all stacking with existing boosts from Evolutions, Dynamic Duos, and Coach Cards. Player XP is tied to the player's account, so progress is retained even if a card is auctioned or exchanged, and resumes if that card is reacquired.

• Expanded Breakout and Infinite Gauntlet: Breakout introduces a dynamic progression system that expands the board with every warp, opening fresh paths and high-value reward opportunities. Gauntlet is now infinite as long as players have eligible cards in their collection, stacking evolving opponent twists, collection shops, and a seasonal leaderboard to raise the stakes on every single run.
• Daily Login: Daily Login rewards now run on a three-tier structure. 2K27 Introduces the First Co-Ed City In Franchise History, Rotating REC Environments, and Rucker Park

NBA 2K27 introduces the first Co-Ed City, where male and female MyPLAYERs compete side by side across every mode in The City, including The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up, Starting 5, and the all-new Crew HQ and Casual Corner. Height, wingspan, badges, and attribute ratings are determined by a player's MyPLAYER build, not appearance, keeping competition level across the community.

The City Enhancements in NBA 2K27:

• A Co-Ed City: For the first time, players can create a female MyPLAYER and step out to compete alongside the global community in The City. All MyPLAYERs are built on the same framework, guaranteeing gameplay parity where skill is the only differentiator. Players can customize their fit with thousands of women's apparel options, spanning designer streetwear to WNBA favorites, and bring their MyPLAYER to run the court across every mode in The City. Female MyPLAYERs are a City-only experience. All game-enhancing rewards, including the MyPOINTS Accelerator, are earned in The City - for all MyPLAYERs. For those who want to play out their WNBA career, The W returns in NBA 2K27 with new mode improvements.
• New-Look Environments: Inspired by community feedback, The REC, The Theater, Ante-Up, and Seasonal Parks will all feature new environments. Every game at The REC now looks unique, with five different environments (High School Gym, Outdoor Court, Private Gym, Crowded Arena, and a Season-themed venue) which will be randomly selected each game. The Theater moves to an outdoor city block, Ante-Up is located on a rooftop court with an infinity edge, and rotating Seasonal parks will feature four new locations plus HD remasters of classics from 2K17. Additionally, Street Kings debuts new locations across The City, while Triple Threat Park reimagines the Skyline Park at night from 2K26 with a number of new enhancements.
• All-New Crew HQ: Settle the debate over who runs The City in this brand-new, dedicated home base that functions as a team-based counterpart to MyCOURT, featuring built-in voice chat, 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 half courts, and full 3v3 and 5v5 courts. Crews can assert their dominance by fighting through six Ranked Crew Game tiers and competing in end-of-season divisional tournaments. Beyond ranked matchmaking, the Squad Showdown Kiosk inside Crew HQ lets players host their own private runs and league play. Crew progression launches with 40 levels, with five new levels added every Season beginning in Season 2.
• NBA 2K HQ: The new NBA 2K HQ app* launches this year with all the essentials to keep players connected to their Crews between and during sessions, with real-time messaging and roster management, and continuous tracking for Daily Leaderboards and Crew Rewards. The weekly tournament opens with a play-in round based on seeding, followed by a best-of-five bracket and a single-elimination championship game to 21. Players stay alert for Court Crashers, where at a random point in any game, a legendary boss player can pull up and take over the court.

Whether that means dropping in to run the NBA across one of five legendary eras, living out their comeback story in "Fire & Concrete," NBA 2K’s most expansive cinematic narrative yet, or teaming up with a friend in the first co-op* MyCAREER in franchise history.

• MyCAREER Eras: A brand-new mode in MyCAREER, players can now step outside the modern NBA and build their career in one of five historical eras, built on the foundation of MyNBA Eras. Each era features its own specific window of time, with rosters, rules, and presentation meticulously calibrated to that period. Players can start their journey in the Magic vs. Bird Era (1984), the Jordan Era (1991), the Kobe Era (2003), the LeBron Era (2010), or the Steph Era (2016), with historically locked rosters, trades, and player movement to keep the league behaving exactly as it unfolded, allowing players to be an active participant in NBA history.
  • Era-Specific Presentation: Each era carries its own unique visual identity, from era-specific locker rooms reflecting each period to era-specific HUDs, score bugs, stat overlays, and on-screen filters matching the authentic broadcast feel of that decade.
  • Era-Specific Moments: Progression in MyCAREER Eras is built around Eras Moments, objectives challenging players to capture historic achievements that defined each period. Completing these objectives advances players through a 40-level reward track packed with exclusive cosmetics.
• "Fire & Concrete": Players following the modern path will experience "Fire & Concrete," a cinematic story spanning 11 chapters, over double the length of last year’s story. The story follows their career from high school through the G League, and into the NBA, including a stop at the meticulously recreated Rucker Park. MP’s cousin Cam, voiced and mocapped by Vince Staples, serves as a central figure throughout the journey, alongside new characters and familiar faces from past MyCAREER stories. For the first time, a fully adaptive score has been composed for the entirety of the narrative.
  • The NBA Draft: In NBA 2K27, draft position is no longer fixed. Depending on performance, players can climb the draft board and earn the No. 1 overall pick or can manually select their team regardless of where they land.
  • Key Games: After completing the main storyline during their rookie year, players unlock Key Games in their second season. Eight new Key Game sets each span roughly half a season across six games, with full-arc narrative content woven in before and after tip-off.
• Co-Op MyCAREER: For the first time ever, players can invite a friend to play co-op multiplayer directly in their MyCAREER, made possible by Running Mate Trace Miller, a custom teammate introduced in the G League who stays through a player's full NBA career. The most versatile MyPLAYER Builder in franchise history hands players the blueprint to model their game after their favorite NBA and WNBA superstars, shaped by strategic Badge Tokens, reworked Badge Progression, and the all-new Synergy system. For the first time, players can create female MyPLAYERs and take them into the now co-ed City.

MyPLAYER Builder Enhancements in NBA 2K27:

• Create a Female MyPLAYER: For the first time in NBA 2K history, players can create female MyPLAYERs in the Builder and take them to The City. All MyPLAYERs are built on the exact same framework - height, weight, wingspan, and ratings determine build performance, not appearance - with on-court skill remaining the true equalizer. With a new builder path available and a vast library of NBA and WNBA player animations to draw from, there are more ways than ever for players to represent themselves and their playstyle.
• All-New Builder Path: Replacing Pro-Tuned and NBA templates, Signature Blueprints are a new streamlined path of pre-made templates each shaped by three athlete comparisons across the NBA and WNBA, seamlessly blending their attributes and animations to reflect their unique style. 40 templates are available at launch, with more added each Season.
• NBA 2K HQ: Starting August 21, five days before Early Access, players can download the NBA 2K HQ app to access the full NBA 2K27 MyPLAYER Builder and start creating new builds from anywhere and upload them directly to their home setup. Builds created in the app are ready and waiting the moment players get on console, so the first session starts on the court rather than in the Builder. • Badge Progression: Each build starts with 20 Badge slots across the six disciplines of Shooting, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, Rebounding, and, new to 2K27, Physicals. All 20 slots are immediately available, but players must earn Badge Tokens to fill them. Progression to earn Tokens is tracked through six meters driven by live in-game performance, Team Practice drills, and Gatorade workouts. Tokens can be reassigned at any time, though Tokens earned through in-game events remain locked to their discipline, while Bonus Slots and Tokens apply to any discipline.
• The Synergy System: The next evolution of Badges and boosts, the all-new Synergy system allows players to surpass the max potential of their Badges. The system features 16 total Synergy slots broken into two components: Fuse and Reaction Badges. Together, these Badges receive a massive boost in-game and even reach Legend tier Badges.
• Badge Loadouts: New in NBA 2K27, Badge Loadouts let players save different Badge combinations and swap the active Loadout before tip-off to counter a matchup's size or playstyle without exiting to the menu. • Team Badges and Teammate Badges: The all-new Team Badges and Teammate Badges fuel on-court chemistry. This year’s mode features five Team Badges and 12 Teammate Badges, which lead to two distinct upgrade paths as players progress.
• Play-Calling and PlayVision: The W is the perfect place to master PlayVision, which is receiving a game-wide facelift. Gameplay Enhancements in NBA 2K27:

• Creative Offensive Weapons: Thanks to ProPLAY, NBA 2K27 captures the league's most inspired offensive moves and adds another layer of creativity to the offensive bag. For the first time, players can replicate the step-through up-and-under mastered by stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, and Luka Dončić to generate clean separation. The new Expanded Dribbling Customization suite breaks signature dribbling packages into 29 individual, decoupled movements, letting hoopers craft endless combinations into personalized attacks. The Dynamic Layup Engine adjusts movements mid-air for unique, clean finishes, and the logic-driven Dunk Meter creates more realistic outcomes all the way to the rim.
• Reworked, Physical Defense: On the defensive end of the floor, players can now choose to contest shots more aggressively or more conservatively with improved hands-up defense mechanics. Meanwhile, advanced shot coverage feedback now displays a color-coded system that illustrates the quality of a contest and the direction it came from. An expanded Defensive Cutoff system empowers skilled defenders to match the offense’s explosive combos step-for-step, and ankle breakers are now skill-based and logic-driven for the first time. A new ball collision system backs it all up, weighing both players’ ratings to determine if contact from a cutoff or steal attempt is enough to jar the ball loose, rewarding physical, well-timed defense while still giving ball handlers a chance to recover.
• Revamped Takeover System: NBA 2K27 introduces a revamped Takeover system built around the five disciplines: Shooting, Finishing, Playmaking, Defense, and Rebounding. Each discipline can be activated individually and is tracked throughout the game with dedicated meters that rise and fall with in-game performance in that area, scaling across six tiers. Once a player maxes out the meter of a certain discipline, it will trigger the equipped Takeover Ability automatically.
• New Advanced Controls: The new Advanced Controls bring unprecedented precision and authentic, dynamic playmaking, whether performing breakdowns on the move, threading no-look passes or throwing intuitive alley-oops.
• Upgraded Rhythm Shooting: Rhythm Shooting returns with some highly anticipated upgrades for 2K27. The Shot Meter gives players a real-time visual guide to hitting the ideal Tempo with a tick mark synced to Pro Stick movement. Now, based on community feedback, successfully hitting a shot with Rhythm Shooting strictly requires greening the Timing. Additionally, Rhythm Shooting has officially expanded to the free-throw line, making the transition seamless for players who shoot with the Pro Stick.
• AI & Coaching: Improved AI logic ensures that computer-controlled teammates and opponents operate with a realistic basketball IQ, designed to read, react, and attack. A new Set AI framework coordinates offensive actions to keep elite facilitators, like Nikola Jokić, at the true hub of the offense, while new team-level gameplans adapt in real time to exploit favorable matchups. On the other end, Enhanced Matchup Switching brings more fluid, intelligent coverage.

NBA 2K27 is now available for pre-order on PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC, and to wish list on Nintendo Switch 2.

The three editions of the game include:

• Standard Edition - $69.99: Featuring Victor Wembanyama, the Standard Edition launches September 4, 2026, and will be available on PS5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

• Deluxe Edition - $99.99: Headlined by Caitlin Clark and available on PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.
